Not sure if any of these things are already planned but thought I’d post a few thoughts I’ve had whilst playing recently. All these things in my opinion should be very rare to find, like very very rare (apart from the tavern game idea of course).
I think the game would benefit from some random encounters. Like for example imagine you’re exploring and you see a “shiny” treasure chest (not a regular one) but it requires you to do something to open it, maybe there’s a riddle or something.
Or maybe “loot goblins” exists and you have a set amount of time to defeat them to take their loot before they disappear.
There could be very rare fish, that if caught can be sold for large profit or if cooked provide a large bonus to a stat (for a limited time).
When chopping a tree maybe you could stumble upon a rare bug that can be used in an equally rare potion that has strong effects.
I also thought there should be another way to obtain legendary weapons, imagine if you can make a common weapon legendary by digging up rare orbs or something and then you have to give your weapon & orbs to a blacksmith for some time for them to craft it (as well as pay them well).
Finally, having a card game or a gambling game in Wicked would be very cool. Doesn’t have to be over complicated but heading to the tavern to knock back a beer and play a game or two would finish off a day adventuring quite nicely.
None of these things need to be implemented as I’ve described (or even at all), they are just ideas but the point I am making is to add a little more wonder and unpredictability to the game, so that each time you log in, you don’t quite know what you might get
I strongly agree that unpredictability would be welcome.
And I also think that it would not be just a bonus, but a way to make the game more “alive”. This would give players more incentives to log and play.
These random events/loots/gems/whatever could range from:
Slightly different (visual, feel, name, etc..) → slightly uncommon
Moderately different (low to medium impact on the gameplay) → more uncommon
Strongly different (change the gameplay) → rare
These should be encountered through events, loot, shinies, crafting ..
I realise that these somewhat exist in the current game (e.g. the different weapons). But they would benefit from added layers of singularity, and uniqueness at the item level (e.g. a unique knife with a truly unique feature) (not the category - e.g. Knives - which is already great)
There’s a risk of making the characters Builds revolve around unique items, with al the good ..and bad sides of it. But I’m sure Moon Studio could find its own way to do it, with the right originality and balance.
I would go as far as saying that - for me - it could be one the most important thing missing in the current state of the game.
The current discoverability feeling is limited and as much as the combat is engaging and interesting, I feel the need to hold from playing too much to not get burned. IF there was more incentives to farm items - and not only the regular or optimised ones - I would focus more on the collection and a bit less on the fights. For a good overall balance..
