As it stands now, the A button does too much movement work. It will dodge if tapped on release, sprint if held or climb depending on context. Too many fine differentiations on a single key.
B is unused other than cancel in dialogue windows
B could be used to dodge and set to button press instead of release
Seems like a simple solution but I am sure it may be more complicated. Regardless, using a single button for three differentiated movements is too much. This would also eliminate dodging off of a ledge accidentally when climbing and tighten up the platforming.
Personally I have seen almost every streamer, youtuber and gamer I know have this issue the default scheme as A for dodge and not separated from all of the other movement inputs.
The issue with rebinding and not separating is that you still do three movement inputs on one key so key binding just reallocates the three binds to the B key. That is not a solution since it isn’t separated from sprint and climb and you still have the issue of sprinting off a ledge.
Incorrect, that’s only the case if they do it poorly.
There’s plenty of games where they start off with combined keys, but you can remap those moves separately.
Dark souls 1 for example has jump on the same as run/dodge, but you can remap it separately
That was a god awful implementation for sure and that rebind, if I recall, where you could separate it came in the remaster.
As a developer, not of games but of applications, I am not sure how that would work. I would love to see the logic in an actual working version of this and I can’t recall ever being able to split controls that are joined. Including Dark Souls 1.
Yeah, we just need custom controls. I still press B out of muscle memory from time to time.
Moving B to dodge+sprint on its own would be more harmful than helpful, though, if you couldn’t customize other buttons. I’m not sure how you’d do sprint attacks with B as sprint and X as attack.
I like dodge and sprint as the same button, personally. Which just brings us back to just needing customizable button mappings. It’s coming eventually, I know they’re working on it.

This is the one that should be set to run+jump, while “ A button”maintains the dodge and jumping in climbing function.
Emoji can be turned on by long pressing the map button, after all, multiplayer games isn’t going to use this often.
And EA current version, there’s just one stage missing between walking and running, walking is like gently pushing a joystick in other games.
i personally like the roll and run in the same button since it makes it easy to run attack. if there is third button for this it would make things just more complicated. B should be estus potion button because my left thump is pressing the move button in Xbox controller
