today I went to complete a black trench bounty and found I could not enter the gate, due to the cellar gate key not spawning. so, I abandoned bounty in case it prevented the enemy or chest from spawning, seeing as I had found an exploit to get to the Darak boss fight without using the gate key or raising the water.
The exploit is this: when given the black trench quest: if you run off the southeast platform with the water pump, near the save point, you can land on the lower southeastern edge of an area with one enemy. Then you can edge up on some rock to the north and climb up the segmented pipes until reaching the upper platform area, which then unlocks your access to the tunnel and bonfire that leads to Darrik further north.
I did this without first grabbing the cellar gate key from the crabs in the far north lower sewer area, and after beating Darak( thus gaining the ability to get black trench bounties), I found that the cellar key or chest just wasn’t there.
now I am hoping this was due to the black trench bounty overwriting enemies in the area. but I am very fearful I soft locked the area, because I have clearly noticed significant enemy and map changes, seeing as defeating Darrick changes the map and world level of enemies and drops.
as of now, I am attempting to go far north into nameless pass to attempt to reset the black trench area. if that fails, I will proceed to complete the godless quest to get my world level to 3, in hopes again of resetting the black trench area.
But reporting this as a bug, and if the jump, pipe climb exploit is the trigger to this bug which removes the cellar gate key (by defeating Darrik without raising the water level or opening the gate), I am reporting it as well.
I game from GeForce now cloud so I don’t have access to player logs, but I will recreate the exploit w photos and also show the missing key location and locked door. I am also not sure if key is gone due to the patch which removes duplicate key spawns?
after watching vid on key location, i can definately confirm, my exploit to get to darrak early, without opening the water drains softlocked me out of getting the celler drainage key. i have to assume once the world level changed the map, the dead npc guard that has the key drop at the north end of the sewer was removed?
for further testing i will wait until reset, to see if the true cause of npc removal was world level change or accepting the black trench bounty, but as of now i cant enter the black trench gate because i have no way to get the key
I was able to complete the Of Rats and Raiders quest by defeating Darak without having the Water Channel Key or Sewer Lever Handle by using a cheeky skip. However the Key and Lever despawned and that has soft locked me from a portion of The Black Trench and I can no longer complete some bounties.
if you go to the Black Trench and jump over there , then climb the pipes , and go straight for the boss and kill him, then when you come to the Black trench again , the key down there that unlocks the door to the left is no longer there
thank you. it was so discouraging to have to divest from a fully build world, it demoralized me. sadly, some key and essential areas may need invisible walls. as well, the key item regeneration and or quest item regeneration may need to be implemented if mistakes like this happen from curiosity
After grabbing the water channel key from the chest, I went straight back to sacrament via fast travel to repair weapons and armor. After repairing and selling some things I fast traveled back to sacrament sewer checkpoint but the key de-spawned from my inventory and now I can not open the water channel door. The chest is still there but it is open and empty. I can no longer interact with it. I’m not sure if the key actually de-spawned from my inventory or if it never entered my inventory in the first place.
I am missing the Sewer Lever Handle and didn’t even do anything I jumped and got shot over the ledge by a mob and finished the boss not knowing I was missing a key. Can we get the key added from a seller once we have completed the mission or auto added to our inventory? I love my world.
Figure I should reply to this. After the update I pulled up this realm and the chest for the key still didn’t spawn so for now I made a new realm and cleared it the correct way. Gotta say the new additions to the black trench are pretty badass! I’m glad I restarted and got to experience them xD

Just wanted to add the past few days I haven’t wanted to play anything else, grinding up the new realm and trying to tackle the new crucible (got him down to a quarter new record) has been incredible. Absolutely love this game and I can’t wait for more story and lore, so invested on the Cerim and The Quiet One
