For me, personally, no it would not make this game any less enjoyable if the ledge protection was not there. If there was a toggle for it (which I feel is the best choice here), I would play with it turned off.
What I don’t understand is the belittling of other players by implying that they need to be babysat and have their hand held. It comes off as snobby and elitist and only creates a toxic atmosphere.
If you don’t like something that they changed, lay out your reasons like an adult and provide actual feedback and suggestions that can be discussed without belittling others.
Moon has shown quite clearly that they are listening to player feedback. Instead of crying that they didn’t cater the experience to you and attack others for not being as great as you, offer suggestions that they can take to their meetings and decide on the direction that they want to take their game. Your voice is probably much more likely to be heard that way.
Something that you described as “I bet if it had been patched in without announcing it, most people wouldn’t even notice.” you for sure defend it quite a bit.
It’s “git gud” territory. Literally get better at playing the game - in particular in the heat of the moment(s) - instead of making the game not punish you for your mistakes.
Yes it does hurt those that don’t need it. It makes the game dumber and easier, when you no longer have to be careful.
It’s like if you said that 500ms parry window wouldn’t hurt people that don’t need it, but would help those that are frustrated by failing parries.
And same goes for “poise hotfix”. It made the game less frustrating for another part of the complaining crowd. And “didn’t hurt” those that didn’t have issues with actually learning enemies’ animations.
And so on.
Either way the issue it’s rammed down everyone’s throat. Yes, I know “custom realms” are allegedly coming. We will see then.
i mean by that, that especially people who do not need it would not have noticed if it wasn’t advertised. i would even go as far as to say you would not have noticed. when someone does not need it, how would they know?
and you still get punished when u run off, walk off, jump off or get shoved off by an enemy.
i just don’t get why people see gatekeeping as their sole personal ingame fun. some people just seem to have fun when they can proof they “got gud” and can belittle others for not “gitting gud”. making games more accessible for those who do not have a huge frustration threshold and godgamer skills is never a bad thing in my book.
same goes for the difficulty settings discussion. people who do not want that can simply play the game as before when choosing “normal” and not touching the setting at all. those QOL features for the non godgamer really do hurt absolutely nobody.
I don’t mind as long as it’s a toggle (and it eventually is expected to be as Thomas mentioned) - for now it’s forced on everyone. As is - still in large part, but less in “hard” mode - poise boost.
And as long as it is forced, it turns into gatekeeping as well - just on the other end of the spectrum.
On semi related note I remember arguing with someone around here that “people can just use easier/harder difficulty options and everyone will be happy” (and I still stand by that on principle) - while he argued that people rather keep higher difficulty option and keep banging their head/complain/quit/write bad review, so devs rather dumb everything down across all options (I’m looking at you “Lies of P”).
Uhm no. It’s not implying. It’s simply calling it for what it is and what they loudly and repeatedly wanted and asked for. Nothing “snobby”, “elitist” or whatever other similar epithet you want to use applies to it.
