If you start game without turn on gamepad its not working. I have to close the game and open it again.
When I turn on the (Xbox) gamepad after the game starts, the gamepad doesn’t work.
The gamepad is only functional if I turn it on before the game starts.
I don’t know if this is a problem that the developers can solve or if this is a bigger issue on Windows or Steam in general. I have this problem too and No Rest for the Wicked is not the only game that has this problem. So my guess is that it’s a bigger issue than just this game
.
It’s not a problem with Steam or Windows. The controllers connect automatically with any other game that I have played with a controller in recent years. I found out because I got up from my computer and in a few minutes my controller went to sleep. When I got back I didn’t even know how to exit the game because I never played it with a keyboard and ESC key has no option to exit. I had to search on the internet how to exit because I didn’t want to ALT+F4. I read about people losing items or progress on ALT+F4 sometimes.
I’ve had the same issue. Also, if I exit to the main menu and disconnect my controller, my keyboard/mouse doesn’t work.
I don’t have this problem for nrftw but I have it for Elden ring. Feels like a Steam problem to me, but I don’t have hard evidence of that
Elden Ring works just fine for me on Steam. I can list you about 20 other games that have no problem on steam, Dragon’s Dogma 2, even Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen works fine. This is the only game in the past years that has controller compatibility for me that has this problem.
Oh. by the way, I have evidence of being this game because other games do detect the controller automatically on recconect. If I disconnect and reconnect the controller, the game remains connected to the keyboard and mouse, if I alt+tab to steam the controller works inside of steam normally. When I get back to the game, the controller is not present.
I also can easily reproduce this on my second laptop and inside GeForce Now.
Maybe on a stand-alone version does not have this problem and the steam version of the game has it ?
My PS5 Controller registers with Steam Input. However, when I go to use it to play the game, nothing happens. It does not function. I see other people have had this problem too. It works perfectly fine with all my other games. I will be forced to refund due to this issue. I truly hope that this issue is fixed in the near future. I would love to play the game.
same here, when i try to use my ps5 controller nothing happens
Hey, thanks for the report.
I tried it on my Dualsense on different stages of game loading to Main menu as well as in Main menu and everything works for me fine. The only thing I noticed is that sometimes you need to focus your game application, say click with mouse in the application and after that controller input is also registered correctly.
What game window mode do you use? Also, when do you usually turn on your controller when the issue happens?
- Moon splash screen
- Private Division splash screen
- Loading screen
- Main menu screen
- or maybe instantly after launching the game just before Moon splash screen
It’s insane that you’ve seen no reply for this at all.
I’m bumping into the same issue. I’ve tried a ps4 controller and a ps5. I’ve tinkered with all the controller settings I can find in the steam and game configuration.
I don’t get it. How do we get support?
If you start game without turn on gamepad its not working. I have to close the game and open it again.
well, this seems to solve the problem then? a lot of games show the same behavior for me: controller is only recognized if turned on before launching the game.
aside from the things suggested here: [Obsolete] PS4 controller will not work at all - #4 by Chemile0n
another thing might be to try with fullscreen vs windowed mode, and making sure not to tab out on 2nd screen while the game launches.
I’ve tried all that to no avail.
I wonder if there is a way to fully reset 100% of the game’s settings. What if the first time I installed it on a machine without the capacity to run it saved some data that is not enabling me to use a controller now.
I connected my PS5 controller to my PC via bluetooth, and it works perfectly fine. (There is bluetooth option in windows where you can connect devices). If that does not work on it’s own, then use “DS4Windows”, that can translate playstation controllers to XInput and other input types and works great
If your controller isn’t on before you start the game, it won’t work. Same deal if your batteries die mid-game the game will stop recognizing your controller after you change them.
Happens to me too.
Third party xbox controller, steam says it whould work pefectly with the game. If it isn’t on when I open the game it does not work.
What’s wierd is that the game actually changes the input icons to the ones for controller, but pressing any buttons does nothing. Like it recognizes a controller is connected, but can’t communicate with it.
Something similar to add. Forgive my ignorance I didn’t know if it has something to do with the game not truly supporting the controller and something to do with the steam support for controllers that games don’t directly support but just swapping back n forth from a dual shock (not aftermarket) and USB 360 controller I have to relaunch the game for the inputs to be recognized.
Haven’t checked after-patch, but before patch if your controller suddenly disconnects, game not auto-pausing. Happily I encountered this not in mid fight
Hi, I am experiencing a bug, but unsure whether other people also have it. I am using a XBOX controller, and the only way I can use it in game is to activate and link to the laptop before opening the game. That means, if you are the guy who starts the game and turn on the controller, you can use keyboard only.
yep same thing here
