Gamepad Disabled when alt-tabbing

After the Hotfix 2 update today (which has improved the performance somewhat, thank you), I noticed that the game no longer recognizes my gamepad when I alt-tab out of the game window to check something in a web browser. This was working as expected yesterday, namely when I resume the game I press any button on the controller I can use it again. The behavior now is the game is forced to play with keyboard and mouse until I restart it if at any time I alt-tab out of the window.

Also of note, I can’t find the option to quit out of the game if I don’t have a controller attached. The option on the settings page present for controller play is not there when one isn’t connected (or I am blind).

Odd, but I cannot reproduce it. Does still occur for you?

This is still an issue in August of 2026. It is specific to conversations with NPC’s I believe. If I alt + tab out during a conversation with an NPC, when you come back you can no longer advance that conversation with the controller, it only allows you to use the keyboard.

If I alt + tab out during any other time, it works just fine. It is specific to the NPC conversations. It seems like the controller isn’t allowed to be re-enabled during NPC conversations specifically. I have to disconnect and re-connect the controller to the system.

I’ve deleted your other post so we can centralize the problem you’re describing here, appreciate the detailed write-up!

I will send this into the proper channels.

Silas

Another note, I just caused this to occur again today, this time with the pause menu up. Same thing, keyboard and mouse work just fine after returning to the game, but the controller wouldn’t activate till I un-plugged it and plugged it back in.

Thank you for the report this has been bugged and escalated.
