NPC Immersion Ideas

Washable Player Character Bloodstaining

Could be a fun flavour feature for some; being able to wash off blood from your character. At the moment, blood fades off quite quickly rather than being washed off via swimming in clean water or other means.

This idea came from observing this NPC lady. She’s washing clothes. She could provide a nice side quest which would reward an unlockable water trough akin to hers, for your house. You would also unlock use of hers.

Likewise, perhaps she could be expanded for future dye opportunities? Maybe she can ‘un-dye’ armour pieces.

I’ll leave this post open for others to share NPC ideas!

Adoptable Orphan for your Abode

The little girl that becomes an orphan and is under Eleanor’s care – Could be nice to offer to take her in once you have your own home purchased.

She talked about her favourite food dish during the quest. Could be a fun continuation of that lore tidbit to have her reward the player once an hour with one meal as a thank you for taking her in.

Perhaps depending on the future comfort system, the more comfort-able your home is, the better the food dish she rewards you.

This could also work with giving the player the ability to wash off “pestilence blight” (possible mechanic, if not already existing) which could persist if exposed to pestilence for too long.

Great idea. Generally giving more NPCs a use, even if it’s only a little thing would heavily benefit the game imo.

Hairdresser

Many people want to have the ability to edit their character’s appearance. This could obviously done by adding a mirror to do so, but I think it would be better to also give this ability to a NPC.

Adopting a Sacrament Dog or Cat

Given the amount of fluffballs patrolling Sacrament, it would be nice to have one that rests outside your home. They could circle Sacrament and retrieve occasional items they find.

Cat - Brings back a fishy or two/simple rat meat from hunting the canals of Sacrament!

Dog - Digs up farm areas, retrieving vegetables/herbs and random scrap items.

Challenge a fighter.

Like Luka, the giant near the dummies. What if you can challenge him to a fight so you can train? His ai would just be for a small pocket of terrain, no need to program him for all sorts of traversal pains.

I think it would be really great if there was a new questgiver NPC who used to be the postman or something. He could give occasional quests to visit old NPCs like the guy who tells us the mine is closed in Nameless pass. This would give a great reason to reexplore old areas, a great opportunity to expand the lore, and the NPC is in a hidden location that the player might have missed, the postman can say “the guy should be around this area” so we have a reason to look.

Additionally, this guy should be able to manage co-op player interactions such as leaving an item with him to be picked up by an ally.

Finally, he should sell a potion or item that reduces your XP gain to zero so you can do stuff like chop down trees without leveling ahead of your friends.

Quick Flings in the Inn

All NPCs (other than Caroline and the ship survivor!) in the inn could be fun to chat with for one-nighters. Some of them are already fairly flirtatious.

Nothing in depth and avoiding straying into it being romance. Just the ability to get drunk, talk to maiden/gentleman, wander upstairs to the correctly assigned room for your chosen NPC and a fade to black. Wake up, NPC is sleeping on the other side of the bed.

Would be great, if drinking and sitting at the tables is implemented, that flavour dialogue opens up to develop these potential flings!

Perhaps each NPC gives off a unique buff… or debuff!

agree with all - it would add a lot of warmth and texture to the city for those rare moments of respite when you’re not slaying apocalypse-sized bears

Hunter’s Faction

The camp of hunters in Lowland was a really nice location with a lot of narrative depth potential and inspired this idea.

  • Hunter’s Faction premise is trapping and culling wildlife.
    • Stealth mechanics could be incorporated as you hunt the prey.
    • Observe decaying/plague induced wildlife concerns as part of story development and unique lore.
    • Unique thematic gear and housing rewards obtainable via faction specific currency (e.g exalted pelts).
    • Perhaps unique utility runes only obtainable from this faction.
      • Examples:
        • Rune of Tracking (highlights beast-type enemies),
        • Rune of Trapping (lay a trap that has a temporary bleed effect when activated),
        • Rune of Skinning (activating this grants a temporary buff that increases hide quantity/drops)
    • If you join the Hunter’s Faction, you have a dedicated tent as a bedrest. Perhaps a lodge is obtainable upon exalting the faction reputation/questline later on.

Master Chef

Perhaps after crafting a certain amount of food types (specifically ones that grant buffs) the player can unlock from Gordon the ability to make a ‘Platter’ version.

This platter can be placed in a home, maybe with a limited number of uses (perhaps 4-8 uses) before either becoming a static décor or despawning.

Perhaps platters can also be placed on the ground for co-op groups to make use of, or the Master Chef can provide the buff to the party via an AoE radial when used near teammates.

We aaaaaall remember the pig feast before each boss pull in Wrath of the Lich King. :joy:

Finley Rework

While I kinda like the current implementation, Finely being time-gated has always been a very controversial topic among all the Wicketeers.

To tackle this issue, it would be great to have Finely spawn at a random location every day, but being available there for the whole day. To not make checking spawn points a repetitive task, there would need to be a ton of possible locations across the whole island in all the areas though.

If implemented like this, it would also greatly reward exploration - if Finley sells decent and maybe even unique (in this case meaning exclusive to him) items.
