Evolving NPC Questlines

Evolving NPC questlines would be an interesting addition to ‘Wicked’.

Each NPC you interact with has the potential to become a companion \ hireling in your Realm. You complete a standard quest for each NPC, once completed they will unlock for you.

NPC’s can join you on your Journey across Sacra and beyond. Or they can stay in Sacrament improving the quality of life for all.

When they travel with you, you can equip them with weapons & items. You can also set how they react in combat. While an NPC travels with you, monsters specific to that NPC spawn. Areas in the world, only that specific NPC can interact with, become accessible. (Example: doors in Sacrament, caves in the open world). Inside a NPC specific event will occur.

When they stay in Sacrament (or any future towns in the world), you can set NPC specific tasks to complete. They will also provide a random item or upgrade while you’re away from them.

Example:
Ghost hunter

  • While travelling with you, Supernatural creatures will spawn. New areas will become accessible

  • While back in Sacrament the Ghost Hunter will continue to fight the Supernatural. Along the way they’ll collect ectoplasm (crafting mats). You’ll use ectoplasm to craft supernatural equipment and items to aid on your journey. (Ex. Crucifix, Back Candles, Holy Oil, Incense)

Please feel free to send along your ideas for Evolving NPC Questlines.

Quest - good,
more mech in town - good,
companion - bad.
In future game will be a multuplayer game, so just imagine 4 people + npc from this level of camera. And dont forget about perfomance - this is gonna be a total mess.

Good point @LikeAGSix, never thought of multiplayer.

NPC companions for solo play or to fill out a multiplayer party may still work.

I was thinking a pet companion instead of a human NPC. To make them sort of a wallflower so it doesn’t get so busy in multiplayer mode.

But that idea came along with something that I envisioned like repairing the Sacrament gates and turning it into various attractions (permanent realm decision), one of them being a carnival to purchase a pet.

But I heavily upvote more interactions from NPCs via quest lines that give you special equipment or perks. Or even more personalized realm modifications.
