Multiple difficulties rant

Souls-like game with multiple difficulties? Guys, are you ok? You criticized Blizzard devs with their D3 logic and saying that the games are not social anymore and that this is an essential aspect for you, and now following the same way as Blizzard did?

WoW – LFG and easy modes = killed all the social interactions.

D4 – 8 of difficulties = players roaming around killing everything with a touch of a finger.

NRFW most likely will have the same outcome.

If I could refund the game, I would already have done it.

Aldo, remove “Souls-like” from Steam so you do not deceive players.

Why is it so upsetting that someone else can enjoy the same video game as you on a lower difficulty setting?

Personally, I prefer very difficult games. I enjoy the challenge and learning the tools and mechanics to overcome that challenge is thrilling to me. The more a game can get me to yell and cuss at the TV, the better.

My wife and my daughters love video games, but are not interested in difficult games. They would sometimes watch me play and they loved the art and style of NRFW but were not interested in trying it because of the difficult gameplay.

Now with multiple difficulties, they can experience the same game that I love on a level that suits their playstyle. I think it’s brilliant - they sold a few more copies in my household alone!

NRFW is most definitely a Souls-Like and deserves that classification. Just because it isn’t Dark Souls, doesn’t mean it isn’t Souls-Like.

Mate, I am happy that devs sold some more copies; at the end of the day, that was the point of introducing difficulty levels.

I am upset not because of that but because they promised challenges and deep mechanics and all of that stuff. They complained that the games are not social interactions anymore and that Blizzard devs used to make great and complex games and then turned into crap with simple character trees(D3) and LFG mechanics(WoW).

However, as soon as they got bomb reviews - they immediately changed their mind and did the same. Instead of growing the game and providing more accessibility to reduce difficulty within the game - they just decided to put a magic menu that slash enemies’ damage and health, and I do not believe now that they can change the path they took because they already stepped on it.

I believe the game will end up similar to D4, where people will one-shot everything. Why? Well, because of the maximum difficulty.

Social interventions to help overcome challenges? Just change the difficulty!

Character build does not work very well? Just change the difficulty!

Screwed up with attributes? Just change the difficulty!

Multiplayer now will be something for 0.5% of players. The rest will just run around on the minimum difficulty.

So now it is not about the game anymore, how awesome it can be, what builds there can be, which weapon is great and why, which runes we should use, and why. Now, it is all about “Change difficulty level.”

The main point for this topic was to vent because I spent 200+ hours in this game and saw the potential to have a great game in the future to spend even more hours. With this patch, developers flashed in the toilet for me but sold some more copies, which is good for them but bad for me. So, I deleted the game and will probably return after the full release to finish the campaign and forget about it.

yeah dude, there are people out there that change the difficulty to make the game more appealing to them. and then there will be folks like us that complain that hard mode isnt hard enough.

consider yourself in the latter group not in the former and its going to be fine.

They will add more realm modifiers to adjust the gameplay to not only your, but also other peoples liking, that way they dont need 2 decades of game development, and 5 game releases and the reliance that current arpgs have nothing to offer, like fromsoft.

They can double/triple or even quadruple dip on their player base, reliable fund the continuation of their game, with just the tweak of a couple of values.

They’d be stupid not to do that.

Now let’s come to the hard mode community and stop caring about those easy mode peasants, shall we

The difficult path is still there for you if you choose to take it, they didn’t take it away. In fact, they made a path that was even more difficult than previously available. With even more options coming later to make your experience even more difficult.

Just because there is an easier path there, doesn’t mean that you have to take it. And just because someone else chose a different path than you, that shouldn’t take away from your experience with the game.

You are not getting what I am saying.

I do not mind having easier ways to play the game, but not through the menu.

Let’s say you are in the end game, and the pestilence is too hard. You get an item burned in the fire, and all mobs in the area become 10% easier at the cost of items, and you get fewer rewards. They already have this mechanic in the game to make pestilence more challenging and rewarding.

Why did not they take the same approach?
Could this be a solution? Yes!
Does it involve a menu? No!
Does it make the game more complex and provide additional mechanics? Yes!

So, players are engaged with the game, not the menu. If someone finds the game hard, here is the mechanic to make the game simpler. Yeah, you will get a bit less loot, but this is the price, and the game still encourages players to learn the game and get better at it, so they will not have to engage in easy mode and sacrifice loot(or whatever the penalties are).

Why would they not rename the game to something like “No Challenge for the Casuals” or “No Grind for the Casuals,” put the MTX store in the game, and start to sell ponies and Spider-Man costumes there?

It perfectly aligns with what people want nowadays and provides a lot of money!

I guess we will see it in the next six months with the path that they took.

Bro, you are fixating on and objecting to the idea of something that has no importance in the scheme of things.

Games evolve, how they present options to the players also evolve. Get over it, and move on.

There was a time that the hardcore souls fan would balk at magic and ranged making the game easier instead of being forced to be a parry-master. Just elitist gate-keeping no different than someone ranting that a game is more accessible to a wider audience.

And just because a game has souls-like ELEMENTS does not make it a souls game. From the start it’s been clear Wicked takes inspiration from many genres and sub-genres. You want a pure souls game, go play one.

Well, I deleted the game and moved on to something else. While I still have interest in this game, I talk about it, but it will probably be gone in a few days.

Evolution of games? Of course, games evolve; in 20 years, we went from games to MTX stores that charge you extra money for the single-player games (Ubisoft crap) or developers releasing the same **** every year (COD and FIFA), so if you like this type of evolution - all good up to you.

I think this game will follow the same road; these lazy difficulty levels are just the beginning.

I remember not liking souls games at all because I hate melee game-play, then Elden Ring and Lords of the Fallen 2013 warmed me up to them by making them more accessible.

I have played RPGs for over 30 years, and have seen games evolve a lot. And the best part of the evolution is choice, and respecting the players time. In that not every gamer has to be the same, and the guy who liked these games when he was 15-20 and had all the time in the world, should not be locked out of the genre because he is now 45 with three kids and a job.

Maybe that guy who has kids and can still get down, has a daughter or a son who wants to play the game he plays too, but not so good at the hard part. Etc etc.

A game becoming more accessible via options, does not take away from the person who wants the more difficult experience. Only if that person decides to be a tool and think that just because he wants that experience, everyone should also be forced to do it that way too.

PS. Imagine knowing a game has player housing and thinking it’s a souls game…

You may be right. I just saw what devs did to the games:
CoD used to be great - Became ****
WoW used to be great - Became ****
D2 was great. D3-4 - ****

The more devs are trying to make games simpler with easy choices, the worst games are getting up until no one gives a damn, and devs are just closing servers. Casuals will not keep the game alive; they will move on after finishing it once, or they may not finish it all. People that will keep the game alive and play for 200-300+ hours… I do not really think they like simple solutions.

Look at POE - thousands of players, and yet you need some sort of a degree in order to play it.

The same goes for ER; it can be hard or easy, it just depends on how you play it not the main menu selection.

I thought this game would end up around the same category. At least, that is what the devs were promising. I guess it only lasts until you get bomb reviews.

I don’t see the point of your complaints..
You are free to complain how much you want.. You can delete the game how much you want.
I don’t know if you deleted the game because you still couldn’t clear the game on easiest difficulty and now you want the devs to make an even easier mode?
Well i don’t care if they make it even easier for you because I simply pick the hard and forget about the difficulty setting. Do I have to actively use it just because they added it? No I don’t :joy:

You dont seem to know how steam tags work do you?

Stop cry and just play in “normal” difficult.

I might suggest, uhm, to go for a walk? Touch some trees? Hang out with some friends, if you have any? yuk

Dax01, Nelson_Junior, Moonslice,

Omg! I have already uninstalled the game and left the forum. Why are you keep posting this BS here?

If you cannot say anything related to the raised problem and your only message is “You are no life miserable turd” then keep it to yourself. It does not hurt my feelings. Just creates garbage on the forum.

There’s a button to actually delete your account. it’s under profile/preferences

But imagine how i flipped out, when they forced giga easy mode onto me after the breach update. i went f-ing nuclear… so multiple difficulties is definitely the better option^^

good riddance idk lol

why exactly are u guys attacking each other? can we maybe not do that?

girl, did you read the thread? lol
