Loss of character control after mining a node, reloading the game leads to infinite loading screen

Good evening!

  1. Description:
Google Drive link with NoRestForTheWicked folder containing DataStore and Player.log/Player-prev.log and DxDiag information. Player ID with the bug is 26863: 2026-01-28_NoRestForTheWicked_softlock - Google Drive
(Player.log and Player-prev.log might not be useful as I restarted the game a few times before collecting the logs.)

    Video of the bug: https://youtu.be/R5DUsSBAUuE
After mining a copper node, the character got stuck in a walking animation while a prompt for depleted node stayed on the screen. The game stayed responsive to player input outside of movement (e.g. the menu can be accessed, interact button issues a sound).
Quitting to main menu and selecting continue causes an infinite loading screen. Loading from Last Whisper does not help the issue. Loading a backup save helps.

    1. Reproduction steps:
Currently not known. I suspect the two items spawning from the node might have nudged the character into an invalid state?

Best regards,
Gloore

Wow, that does seem bad.

Thank you for reporting this Gloore!

May I ask to also add your:

  • Datastore
  • player.log
  • player-prev.log

See this: How to Properly Report Bugs! if you need detailed instructions.

Looking forward hearing from you!

Hello Silas!

Thankfully the backup system helped with not losing any progress!

The files should already be in the Google Drive link I have included in the post (and it is set to ,everyone with the link can view’’), but I see that I have worded it poorly. The link contains the whole NoRestForTheWicked folder from […]/AppData/LocalLow/Moon Studios, so it has DataStore and both player logs (albeit less useful due to me restarting the game a few times before collecting them).

I also updated the body to make it clearer!

Cheers,
Gloore

Ah good news. Feel free to return here if you ever come upon this issue again.

I also edited the title because the system I work with needs [ ] for other things, hope that is okay .

Thanks for the update!

Hello! I have had a similar issue, so I report in this topic.

Pestilence 4 area, killed enough mobs and was on the way to the boss, decided to cut down a tree. Did that, and the character stopped responding to controls. His hands were displayed empty (equipped weapons did not show, as when the character is harvesting resources), pose idle, no reaction to any controls at all.

Similarly I can’t load the realm now, and can’t continue from the last whisper.

Here are the files: Bug Report

Thank you for your attention!

Hey Greyman,

I would start with relogging, restarting, then verify files.

Let me know!

Restoring the (character) save backup did the trick! But just in case I reported it here, maybe it will help catch the bug.

Nice, how did you do that? That i’ll be very useful for future players!

Sure! Backups on Windows are in C:\Users\(yourUserName)\AppData\LocalLow\Moon Studios\NoRestForTheWicked\DataStore, in folders with numbers. Each folder is for a particular build of the game.

I went into the folder of the latest updated realm, copied character saves in a separate folder just in case, then deleted the “main” save and removed the “bak” from the latest backup file’s name.

And it worked!

I was making my way through the Black Trench stopped to mine an ore then suddenly I couldn’t move or do anything. I quit the game and reloaded and got stuck on the loading screen when "continuing from last whisper”. I hit the windows key and then suddenly I was loaded in, but I can’t move or do anything. I can load other characters into the realm, I can load the effected character into other realms but I can’t continue the game on the home realm of the effected character.

Hi Hellboy, sorry to hear that man.

Can you try the above solution from TheGreyman? (be aware it will probably set you back some time)
