Aside from the game not working for some people, this has to be the greatest plague on the game right now. And it’s bad…like really, really bad.
Not only does it lock onto the worst target, usually a witch not even agrod on you and two axe men chop you up. But even if you turn it OFF in the settings it’s still on. There won’t be a dot on the witch but my character will still be turned facing her as I get pummeled in melee. You’ve got to fix this. It’s insane that I can have 1 shot builds killing everything I see but then die four runs in a row because I have no control over who I’m looking at. When the player has to fight your controls more than the actual enemies, there’s a major, major flaw in your game.
EDIT: Another issue with it being turned off is you seem to be unable to damage some enemies. With the setting off, even if I get right in Echo Knights face, my attacks will just go through him. I tested with it on and off. While on fireballs hit him, with off fireballs go through him.
I personally found turning it off in settings to be worse. I originally turned it off to ensure I was actually locked onto the enemies I wanted to be locked on to. Although, I soon realised that during fights I would randomly stop being locked on to the enemy and it especially didn’t help during fights as if it stopped mid-attack then I would just completely miss my attack.
It especially didn’t help for the witches that end up teleporting everywhere. As soon as they teleported the lock-on would disable. I think it should remember what you were last locked on to. Especially for those that turn it off in settings, this will then reduce the constant need of locking back on.
Totally agreed, the targeting is off whenever i do the roll, imagine that in the heat of a boss fight, he just standing right there with the back against me for a sweet hit and next i hit the air for nothing!! this is very very bad, i plan to stop playing until this is fixed.
This is why the games in EA, so we can provide feedback and polish every aspect. I don’t mean to be rude but I wouldn’t have bought the game in it’s current state if it was full release but I truly do believe in the devs and you can see the passion they have.
I agree that targeting system need some kind of inmprovement. I would also like to have more VISIBLE dot on my target. This orange lil dot is sometimes rly hard to track
there is also another problem. Sometimes in the Crucible there are zones where actually becuase of isometric view, you cannot see how many mobs are near you ready to attack, so you try attacking one and get busted because two other mobs were there and charged you to death. That problem too should be faced and solved, like making an arrow on screen showing potential threats that are offscreen.
I would prefer they didn’t add more UI, they could tweak the enemy spawns or map design a bit. I do think certain areas suck in The Crucible because you’re traveling downward, where the camera doesn’t show much, only for you to get charged off a cliff by some dude off screen.
I just started encountering this with a new character I created today. I have a clip of 3 consecutive attacks just completely missing the targeted enemy LOL. It seems to happen mostly when doing a charge attack, holding down “A” on the controller and attacking with “X” just to be clear. Also, it doesn’t matter what weapon, it happened with 3 different weapons I tried.
1.) When I run towards an enemy and it locks-on to an enemy behind me instead just because they are closer.
2.) Sometimes it will lock-on to enemies behind walls instead of enemies in your sight simply due to the distance they are from you.
3.) Mouse wheel scroll auto-locks the same as the keybind. So if I heal with middle mouse button I sometimes scroll the wheel on accident and it locks-on to a target I never wanted to.
Here is a short clip of an issue I had.
Running towards the Mage I wanted to lock-on because Knockout Shot is horrible with the auto-targeting system. I clicked to lock-on as I was moving behind the wood wall and I guess the tree too so the game decided either to go to the Knight because they were closer (to close to the Mage to tell) or because my character couldn’t see them and thought the Knight was the best choice. Which it wasn’t.
If the Cursor had priority here it would have been fine. The game definitely has some odd controls and systems that need a bit more love.
Another example of the targeting system choosing the enemy behind me instead of finishing the enemy I was already attacking. This happens twice in this fight where it choose a new enemy right before I kill another enemy.
Yea, lock-on is a frustrating mess in this game for now. I also initially had “auto” off, but after a while had to turn it back on. Not because I like it, but because it’s a lesser evil (and the whole “hold key to unlock target” idea is insane on its own.
If one of the devs sees this… do you have this on your list? If yes, we could reference to this post everytime it pops up somewhere else (because it does quite often)
it isn’t random. i play with manual lock on, and it seems to lose lock on, when your character stops facing the enemy and looks in a different direction, or when the distance to the enemy becomes to big.
I play with manual targeting and I agree with the above posts. Since making my bow and dagger character, I cannot attack the wolves that look like they are from the thing movie. The ones that open their maw and have tendrils. I’ll target them and every arrow goes right through them.
I’ve sworn I had arrows go over the top of enemies like Siren and Wolves both small and big versions of both.
Always funny when Lock-on misses a straight shot. Or Multi-Shot hitting once and the next 2 shots missing because the enemy has now moved due to the first shot hitting them, so the 2 following don’t readjust to the new enemy positions and miss constantly.
Would also like to see multi-hit attacks like Multi-shot or Crushing flurry to lock on to the next target even if the animation is still going. Many times I start a Crushing Flurry and kill an enemy in 1 hit then have to watch my character miss the enemy right next to me for the next 5 attacks.
Can’t wait for a better targeting and queuing system for multiply enemies to stop all the unneccessary misses.
Still haven’t fixed the lock on system. It’s fucking shit honestly. Legit locked onto an enemy for like 4secs till it decides to break off completely locking onto nothing and me wasting my skill aiming it off aimlessly. Even when trying to aim it without lock on it doesn’t aim exactly where you want it to go. This problem has been here since the second week of it’s release date. Fix it.
I really need an update on this. Is it being worked on? Estimated time to be fixed? I love the game but dying to this over and over is aggravating. It’ll be a bit ridiculous of me to change my review after 200 hours but if a core mechanic can’t be fixed or turned off (as discussed turning it off doesn’t actually do so) then I’m considering changing my review to negative if the devs refuse to talk about it.
