[Linked] Hours Of Progress Lost On Friend's Realm - New Character

Hi,
want to report my experience on playing on GeforceNow. Seems to me that this should be improved in the future.

Game environment: Nvidia Geforce Now and Steam.

Current behaviour: Played a couple of times “The breach” and the game crashed. After restarting the game there was no actual saving and I had to restart from the day before (last saving). So I lost 4 hours of play time.
Checked the remote_storage_app of Steam and there was also no saving occuring during gameplay. Saving seems to happen only, when I close the game (going to desktop).

Suggestion/expected result: when using a whisper or finishing a quest or going back to the main menu (not desktop), then saving should happen.

Every time I beat a boss or find a nice item that I dont want to loose, I finish the game and restart the GeforceNow session.

I started a new character on a friend’s realm. When we last played we both had level 9 characters and since I was playing solo today I decided to start a new one so I didn’t advance too far on my main without him. I played for about 4:30 hours and I started to get stuttery. My character would occasionally collide with invisible walls on clear paths or open door ways. I figured this was probably my internet because I live in a rural area and it would go away after a few seconds of being persistent, only getting me killed once during a fight. However, eventually it got so bad that I decided to leave the realm, thinking that maybe there was an update or some sort of world desync. When I logged back in I was no longer level 8 on my new character but level 6, I was back in The Shallows in a tower I was exploring hours ago. I went back to town and all of the upgrades that I had made to the town were gone and I no longer owned The Roost, which I had purchased just before logging out to alleviate the bug. I was seeing a red note warning next to my character health bar. I’ve included a screenshot in the Google drive along with all the debug files requested.

Please let me know if anything can be done to fix or prevent in this in the future. I’m unsure if the bug is able to be reproduced, but since it stole 3 hours I’d rather not ^.^*

thanks for your reply. Played now 50h with Together update. Had no crash since my last post in May 2025. It was super stable.

But it should be easy to reproduce because you can play, use the whispers etc and check if a new file is created in the steam cloud folder of NRFTW. If not, then steam is not saving your progress and when a crash happens, the last saving will be used again. I am using steam cloud as a reference because of Geforce Now. Dont have access to their local files.

This morning, I joined my friends game at level 13 and then he had to leave so I went back to my Realm. I then played on my Realm to level 15 and had upgraded gear and an illuminate rune to pass to him. When I exited to main menu and joined his Realm, it reverted to the level 13 character with old gear. When I log back into my Realm, I am still level 13 and cannot seem to determine how to recover the saved game with my level 15 equipment.

Backed up my AppData\LocalLow\Moon Studios\NoRestForTheWicked\DataStore folder. Going off the old 2024 instructions, I am not seeing any .tmp file names, in the main Datastore or the folders labeled 26863 or 26924. It looks like all new saves are going in Folder 26924 so I tried to rename a cerimal.bak file to .cerimal from the time right before i swapped characters and it doesn’t change my character level or inventory back. Not sure how this game handles saved characters/equipment. Anyone know how to recover my save game/equipment?

And now after this patch, a new folder 26950 was created and I’m guessing my old save game file is gone.

hello, same thing happened to me, played for 9 hours today, when i finished clearing the northern quarry the game crashed, forced closed, reopened, all progress lost, all gear and 5 levels from 16 to 20 or 21, about 90 minutes of farming trees and stuff to upgrade the vendors, theres no way im doing all that again, please if there is a way to help me retrieve my save let me know

character is iutaro, realm is maiketia

I spent some time doing various things, then completed a bounty, made some char changes and extracted a few runes, total of maybe 1.5h playtime. At the end of this time I quit straight to desktop. The game did freeze for some time before shutting down. Almost the entire progress of the session seems to have been rolled back. Logging back in I got placed near where I had started, and xp, items, etc. were all as before, and the bounty unfinished.

Let me know if I can provide any files or other debug info

Could someone from support contact me? I experienced a massive rollback in the game, losing a lot of items and farm out of nowhere. I simply logged in and was in a different place at a lower level, and lost all my farm.

@cleverx I’ve put your comment as solution, but just for visibility :wink: , thought it would be helpful for people to see how they can check if they are in this (I understand it’s not a solution though!).

You can either ping me in Discord, or do the following:

  • log into your steamcloud saves for this game Sign In
  • check if saves are made for you when traveling with a whisper, or going back to main menu
  • let me know if they are or are not.
