Let me turn off auto-"everything"

Hi,
now after about 30 h and completion of what is available right now. I want to say that this game looks like it will be fantastic.
In short: this game is great, but…

I want to talk about something that was the #1 reason for me screaming at my poor PC screen.

  • let me turn off auto target
  • let me turn off auto aim
  • let me turn off auto jump
  • let me climb ladders actively
  • just let me deactivate everything that tries to help me and ***** things up on the way.
  • and when up to it; fix the “on button release” dash

I know that all of these features are aimed towards console controllers since they cannot rotate the view that fast, and have limited buttons, and it is absolutely impossible to even remotely aim as precisely as with a mouse, and and and…

But I have superior hardware and I dont need and dont want help. I am really much better at deciding when to jump myself.
I am much better to aim manually without “targeting” a single foe.
I know that there is an option to turn off auto aim, but when doing this, the character looks in the direction where it walked lastly, meaning they will not aim in the direction where the mouse is, but where they look at, what is horrible. Especially ranged attacks are impossible, because on top; the aim direction (btw also with walking) appears to take the 2dvector of the mouse relative to the center position of the screen as direction and not a raycast to the environment. That fits to a console stick, but is horrible for mouse aiming, especially with this (nice) vertical world .

Ok, now that the frustration is out… This game is on the way to greatness. Go on.

Couldn’t agree more. This is my number one problem with the game.

  • We should absolutely have a manual jump button
  • Targetting/aiming should be completely manual when you lock off enemies, like in Elden Ring (and other Fromsoft games)
  • Mining/Tree cutting etc. should not be context-sensitive auto actions, it should be a manual thing we do with our weapons or something

I started with mouse controls but it felt awkward so I switched over to a controller, and maybe I’m in the minority with this, but I enjoy the majority of movement as it is. It feels good to just run towards a ladder and climb up and down automatically. Same with small ledges. I would only comment on running towards climbable wall should register into the climbing animation rather than jumping off.

With regards to targeting, it feels okay. It’s easy to switch between targets with the right stick. Visually I think the target dot could perhaps something more visually prominent like the enemy outline maybe.

Maybe I’ll go back and try a fresh character playing only with a mouse next big patch. On a controller movement and actions feel solid, though would appreciate key rebinding.

auto target? you mean how you have to press right stick to lock onto a target and can press right stick to unlock that target giving you free aim again???

basically yes, but not with a controller.

Like i wrote, in this case it exists, it is just totally broken, at least for a mouse.
