I’ve really enjoyed the game and have played nearly 95 hours so far. I’ve been thinking about ways to make chores more appealing by introducing a system that provides both permanent and temporary buffs based on time spent performing them. Since players are usually engaged in these tasks between fights, this could add a layer of progression and immersion.
Assuming no new chores will be added, I tried distributing the existing ones across 8 attributes.
Permanent Buffs System
The idea is that chores contribute to permanent stat increases over time. For example: You might gain 0.001 health per unit of food consumed or earn 0.001 stamina per unit of distance traveled.
Resource types could grant different values (e.g., 0.001 per pine log, 0.002 per birch log, etc.).
This system could also include a tracker that shows how many times you’ve performed each chore during your journey. Maybe make these attributes non-reallocatable and add a cap to it for balance reasons for end game.
Here’s how each attribute could be linked to a chore:
|Health|Consuming food|
|Stamina|Running around|
|Strength|Mining|
|Dexterity|Woodcutting|
|Intelligence|Cooking|
|Focus|Fishing|
|Faith|Collecting herbs|
|Equip Load|Digging|
Temporary Buffs System
This functions more like a potion: after performing a chore a certain number of times (say, 5), you get a buff. Additional repetitions increase the buff duration in limit. If you die or timer runs out you start over. I don’t think this will effect potion use that much but it will make your chores slightly more rewarding on the fly. Maybe add these effects to the tools and increase the variety.
|Mining|Gain **damage** boost|
|Woodcutting|Gain **stamina regeneration** boost|
|Fishing|Accumulate **focus** while waiting; if you catch a fish, you keep the focus—miss it, and the focus is lost|
|Collecting Herbs|Gain **focus regeneration**|
|Digging|Gain **poise** boost|
