Fixing Auto jump

The jumping needs a serious overhaul.

Many times the auto jump doesn’t understand where you want to jump even if it’s quite clear to the player, possibly being caused by having to many ledges in an area. One place in particular this is terrible is in the beginning of the mine area. The vines that are accessed by the wooden crane to get a iron node high up. Returning to wooden crane from the platform on the vines; this is a roll of the dice if you’ll just jump to your death, catch the wrong edge and fall to your death or land on the crane as intended.

There are also several instances where the jump just wont happen or two broken sections of a bridge are one after another and you jump the first gap straight into the other.

I’d like to lump falling from a climbable ledge, like vines or even ladders. I’ve walked up to a ladder or top of vines and just fallen to my death several times rather than grab the obvious climbable object.

This is incredibly frustrating on a normal character. It’s uninstall rage inducing when this happens to a hardcore character. You have no control over this mechanic at all and are at the mercy of the coding. With the verticality of this game these issues come up all the time, and it’s even been admitted by the dev team that falling is the leading cause of death. This fact has been felt by anyone with significant time played. I’d argue that very few people think this is fun.

What I would suggest trying is not allowing the auto jump to jump if that jump would lead to a lethal fall. Maybe you don’t land where you wanted, or you take damage for the jump. This would still allow for exploration and the fun plunging attacks. But if the jump would be lethal, your character would not jump. You could add an animation where your character catches themselves on the ledge. However, even just running in place I feel would be preferable to having the coding launch you in a direction you did not intend and being killed.

I feel having an auto jump is actually preferable to a jump button for this game. It needs to be way more intelligent though, directing you to things you can actually jump to rather than randomly throwing you to your death.
