This thread really reminds me of another one I started a while ago (which I’ll link below). I think tt’s a shame that the game traps players during their first run. The only way to avoid this is to be cautious and hold off on spending stat points or to have played the game before.
It’s clear that, to a large extent, the waves of negative reviews from new players over the game’s supposed difficulty aren’t really due to the game being technically demanding. Rather, it’s because these players ended up stuck with a poor stat distribution and no way to undo the points they invested. And the fact that the re-spec system is only unlocked at the Crucible just makes the issue worse.
I’m convinced this is one of NRFTW’s most urgent problems: new players believe the game is difficult because they’re constantly dying, so the developers respond by lowering encounter difficulty. This has led to solid builds completely steamrolling the game.
Instead, the game should explain and help players build the character they want to play.
