…after reaching level 2 at the first safe/checkpoint.
Game looks gorgeous and played most smoothly. Exploring the beach was exciting. Mixed feelings about all the loot, but picking it up as well as cutting trees blend seemless into the gameplay.
Despite the game being pretty much flawless so far, i am still way more hooked from the trailer than from the first two hours.
Now bad stuff:
- Characters looked very silly and off-putting in the character creator. Design is for reasons i personally understand and wont question. But maybe just give them another pose, to not emphasize the exaggerated proportions.
- How the foreground on the ship gets removed for visibility feels off or inconsistent. Note that this is the very first moment for new players in the game. Later on it felt smooth again, if there was any foreground to begin with.
- As an RPG, it would be better to have something the player could solve in their own role during the first two hours, as this way the first level up feels very meaningless. Maybe just picking between a bow or a chainsaw during the tutorial for one fight could make all the difference.
- Music and ambient sound felt too quiet. But i was not using headphones, so i would not double down on that.
Wish you all a happy new year 2025
