At this point, I doubt they even know the specifics. Most likely, by mid January, there will be an announcement about the new update, which will probably land somwhere in April, kinda like a one year anniversary since launch.
From what I gathered from all the discussions from discord and so on, they have no ideea how to make this game work and the suggestions regarding the nerfs , the runes, the food consumption, they are just laughable. I get what they are trying to do, make players spend as much time in the game as possible and just make the game harder for the sake of spending time in the game. Sorry guys but that is not fun, we have Elden ring / black myth wukong / souls series/ etc. for that and they are massive in terms of gameplay. If a game makes you feel like your are doing a chore, then the game is not fun and you are not having fun.
The concern here for the new update is that people will have to start over , that is bad, feels like diablo seasons, move the char to eternal realm and start over for a couple of months, untill the next update and so on and so on. Boring and unoriginal.
Its a shame, there was potential here for a different kind of game with a fresh perspective,. I guess its time to go back to poe 2 and diablo 4 , this one is for the dumpster. Too bad I cant refund it, I would gladly get my money back and never return.
Its not a scam, but they did bamboozle people into buying early access, because nobody knew how long/short was this early access and what they actually offer and if there will be an endgame in early access, by the time it was finished, there was 20+ hours of gameplay and a 40 euro price tag. That is expensive for one chapter of a game.
Then there was the roadmap, which was also a blatant lie , they never talked about it afterwards.
So yeah, not a scam, but shady behaviour from the developers and lack of transparency towards the people who bought the game, will be the downfall of this title.
I have games in EA on steam going strong 2 years now, like Tainted Grail, hell Ender Magnolia didnt have an update since march last year, they said they will release the game in january, but if they delay i wont be calling them scammers, wont said the game is dead because i understand what EA is for, feedback.
If you dont have the patience to wait dont buy EA, its beta testing, feedback for the devs and waiting, go play something else in the meantime, like i do. I bought the PoE2 EA btw, have a lot of fun, finished act3 and uninstalled, gonna wait for the new classes to show up, im certanly not gonna go on the steam foruns or the GGG foruns and call the devs a scammers because i didnt get my fix now.
so you basically finished act 3(hopefully at least cruel) completed the “tutorial” and uninstalled the game (without playing the real end game)…gg
If they wipe the characters everytime they do a massive update “to have the full experience”, then whats the point in playing the game or continue playing if youre going to start over every single time , they decide to do an update? These guys are years from full launch, lets say they respect that ellusive “roadmap” they had back in april, and start doing those updates, those were 4 major updates to the game, one of them being “the breach” and from the conversations I read from discord, they plan to expand it, because “sacra is an island” and we have a full mainland to explore, based on that , and what I see so far, if they implement something big, you are hit with a wipe, next major update - wipe and so on and so on. Because they want you to spend more and more time in the game, create a new character, build it from zero, now we have a new expansion, sorry guys, we have to wipe again and it goes on and on and on. Thats why they made the stupid decision to have that mobile game gimmick implemented in game - to wait 4 hours for an upgrade on the merchant or armourer? wtf is this ? a job ?
I dont want to waste 4 hours of my life to upgrade a piece of armor that I would probably use for another 5 levels. “but, but … you will have other things to do in game while the upgrade is done , like choping trees and making your home look nice and tidy, aaaaand shoveling and picking ores” Really?
Wow ! I said it before, Ill say it again , if it feels like a chore, then its not fun.
Some people have fun grinding endgame, good for them, its subjective right? I dont, i finished act3, killed that guy with the annoying machine and when cruel started i quit, i dont want to grind, i dont want to play the same levels and quests again, i will wait for the new stuff.
For me endgame in these type of games, like diablo and grim dawn, are work, i dont have fun, its work, and for what? I explored everything, saw almost everything, game is a lot fo fun though, dont get me wrong, i dont regret buying into the EA.
I think we are discussing the game in the wrong thread though, a lot of the complaints you guys have are adressed in other threads, like the timed upgrades.
well, the last updates did not cause a wipe. and as i understood, you can keep a “legacy realm” where u still have your current stuff. it is for the multiplayer update, so people start fresh with newly balanced items and without exploited and duplicated things.
which is fair imo.
also not every game is for everyone. i do not like the mobile idea either, but i also do not condemn the game for it yet. in the end its all just ideas floating around and nothing is set in stone as long as 1.0 is not there. so why don’t we just wait for the announcement and the next update and see where this goes?
What last major updates we had? Crucible was just redone, other than that, no MAJOR UPDATES on this game have been made since its inception. A couple of fixes and bug fixes , are not major updates. We clearly are talking about two different things, The Crucible was not a major update, it was a revamp of the old system, the system was already in place. I am talking about this “major update” that everyone keeps teasing for a couple of months now, that shouldve been released november 2024 , but it never came, it got delayed. I believe its called “the breach” if not mistaken. From my understanding ideeas that Thomas has are going to ruin the game further and further and its gonna be worse than before. For example the focus on PS5 and Xbox, that shouldve been made from the beginning, now its basically taking funds and man power + time to develop that instead of focusing on the paying customers (us) who “are part of the EA” and at least try and finish the product he sold or at least try and finish the main story and probably add a couple of new areas, he is focused on other things that have absolutely nothing to do with the game he advertised in the beginning. . Scond, the false advertisement that was the basis of the purchase. Single player arpg like dark souls, alas from what I see Mahler wants this game to be a live service game (MMO) style, with timers and artificial progression blockers, a mandatory 3rd party account and a plague system that changes the world even when you dont play. That is not what he said this game would be in the first trailers he released and gameplay and what the expectations were from the beginning. Even if those are bounced on and off ideeas , all of this information should not be only on discord, or this forum, it should be on STEAM. You know why ? Cause thats where all the money came from. Not from DISCORD, not from X, not from this forum or from Facebook but from STEAM, paying customers.
The lack of respect he has towards the people who bought his game will ultimatelly be his downfall and this games downfall. He promised a lot and never kept to anything, released a half- assed rogue-like dungeon that takes 20 minutes to finish and thats what he and his team call endgame to a game that was released with 5% of its main story. Its bad practice and bad bussiness and unfortunatelly for him , he will find out the hard way. GTA6 releases either this year in the fall or next year first quarter, if Mahler and co , dont have anything solid by that time to get people back, this game is done.
they never said it will be a wipe every update. and if u read the announcement from thomas they discussed it intensively, but as i understood from the post in discord they feel like they have to do it because a lot of systems will be completely reworked or massively changed. that would mean keeping all old stuff without wipe would destroy the new balance and dynamics of things.
and this together with multiplayer starting i see as completely reasonable.
nobody ever said there will be seasonal wipes or anything like that. i think we should not doom-speculate, but trust and wait. if we then see we don’t like what happened, then there is time for discussion. right now we are just discussing our own speculations, so that’s kind of pointless in itself.
its as pointless as the discussions on discord as well. They talk and talk is cheap, they have nothing to show for it. Look on steam just for a second in regards to other games that are on EA and you will see a big difference in terms of updates and players. For example Manor Lords, also a game in EA , cheaper than NRFTW, check the updates history, dec 19 update, 23 dec update, today update, player base 10k / daily. Now take NRFTW and compare it,. No update for more than half a year and nothing to show except “discussions” on discord. Player base 140 people /daily. That also says a lot about the state of this game and where its heading. Why have all the discussions on discord if you dont actually implement any of them or show anything or actually update the game ? They couldve updated this game step by step like most developers do and people would believe they are actually working on something big. For the time being all we have is talk and nothing else. bla bla bla bla , we are cooking what a shit show.
that is a decision the dev team can make on their own. they said very early on, that they do not want to drip feed, they want to create something and update when its done.
some people like it when they get drip fed and get a new map, new class, new weapon etc each months, others prefer updates in larger fragments and are willing to wait for that.
as u could probably already guess i am one of those who prefer not to be drip fed. if i’d get a tiny update each month or so i would be fed up with the game before its 1.0. i want to have enough update so it is worth to try out new things and explore for a few days or weeks, and not only jump in, check new weapon, play 2h and forget until the next update. but thats just personal preference.
in any case, i think there is no reason for “doomsday prognosis” just because we will most likely get a wipe with the next update. does not mean everything u do until 1.0 will be for the bin.
They also said if I recall, regular updates , early on remember that ? Im sure I didnt develop amnesia overnight.
Fck me if I saw a significant update being rolled out on this game since its inception.
This game didnt even have a quit button mate, when it came out. Thats how bad it was , were here talking about major updates, progression, crossplatforming , qol updates and optimization and the game didnt have a quit game button on it. Its one thing to drip feed and another to ignore your customers entirely for almost a year and then bait them with a trailer for an announcement, how fcking sad can you be as a game developer that in one year this is all you can come up with.
So let me get this straight, you take money from the players, with the promise of regular updates and the promise that the EA will include those players in the developement of the game, also the promise of multiplayer early on as the first big update thats being worked on, then you dont communicate anything in regards to your decisions with your playerbase on the platform that you sold your game on, where you basically made all your money for the game, you ignore them completely for almost a year, all the communication is done on Discord, which at this point is just chit chat between fanboys of the game (no offense), and you bait your paying customers with a trailer for an announcement? Thats it ? Thats what youve been doing one whole year with the money? Daaamn , and I tought Caspian (chronicles of elyria) was bad. These guys use the same method of gaslighting as he does, show some render models, show some maps, show some animation, without showing any gameplay or anything of substance.
What a shitty way to treat you customers and playerbase.
i really do understand your frustration about communication and updates. thats the reason why i opened the thread to at least carry over discord discussions to the forum, so we get regular updates and ideas and discussions on 2 platforms, not only in discord. i just try to help out as i can, and the team still has my “benefit of a doubt” trust credit.
they are known for delivering great games, and the game in this state is still better than a lot of full price game the market is flooded with.
lets just wait what they will do before we condemn every idea. thats all i am saying
I mean, if you’ll pardon my pointing it out, if we’re going to wait and see and not pass judgement on ideas in advance, then there’s not really anything to talk about.
We can’t talk about how any of this stuff works out in the game, because none of it is in the version of the game we have access to.
yeah kind of exactly my point.
i mean we could discuss how a wipe might or might not deter players from playing the game, or how we might or might not need more game updates instead of ideas and feedback discussions to advance further… but in the end all we can do is wait and trust in the process.
even if people do not trust the process, why speculate about wipes being good or bad, getting an update in january or april or whatever. there is just no point in saying “dead game because wipe”, “dead game because no update in january”… etc. its not productive. on the contrary, its rather destructive.
so i for myself, just trust in the dev team to built their vision. weather i like it or not, i’ll see when its there. speculating or doom-calling won’t improve anything.
While I’ll agree some of the doomposting is over the top to the point of obnoxiousness, I actually disagree that there’s no value to it.
I’d actually argue that it’s potentially very valuable feedback, if Moon was willing to hear it.
Specifically, if a significant amount of your players are so upset with the way you’re handling communication and updates that they feel scammed, that suggests there is a very serious problem with how you’re doing things.
I’ve played a whole bunch of EA games, and this sort of reaction is absolutely not normal. There’s one or two people whining no matter what, of course, but not on this scale. Have a look at the recent Steam reviews- the game’s rating is dropping, and almost all the new negative reviews are some variation of “no updates, no communication.”
To be clear, no, I don’t think this is a scam. What I think it is, is the worst communication and expectation management I’ve seen from any Early Access game I’ve played.
For pity’s sake, the Steam page is still, as I type this, displaying the roadmap proudly proclaiming “Update 1- Multiplayer” more than five months after Update 1 released without multiplayer. I have no idea how Moon has allowed that to happen, it looks amazingly unprofessional, and it’s pretty typical of how communication anywhere but Discord has gone.
don’t get me wrong, i totally do agree that we as players would need more updates to at least keep the “trust in the process” going. and people complaining here or in discord or steam about lack of communication is no news either. what i was saying was not “just enjoy silence”.
we as a community have addressed this a lot in the last half year or so. but as i (personally) understood, a lot of lack of communication was due to the publisher being sold. therefor changes in not only development, publishing, advertisement etc, but also as i can imagine a lot of uncertainty for the actual dev team who do the work.
that is no excuse by far. there should be at least a short 3 liner on steam about current discussions… i don’t know at least a link to discord or the forum for updates etc.
so if people were only on steam they’d see t was NOT abandoned. with the crucible update when we received info on steam again but until then there def. was a time of “silence” at least on steam.
i can just see how immensely stressful this has to be for the team. they are highly acclaimed for their ori games, and people expect a lot.
and what we got with the first few bits and bobs of the game was and is great already!
and then they suddenly face bureaucratic challenges as well as pressure from the community, and not to mention self promised goals. its a lot that people do not see, nor appreciate.
all i see is a team that still communicates regularly.
every few days there is someone responding to bug reports and collecting logfiles etc to fix things.
there are people active on discord every day dropping infos or just short smalltalk messages. i see they are alive, so i trust.
yes, communication def. could have been better, but doom-calling every 3rd day or typing in discord/steam “game ded” every day will absolutely not move things forward.
again that is why i as a mere mortal (moderator) here created the update thread: Updates and discussions from the official Discord
so we as a community can at least help to keep information and life signs spread over multiple platforms.
i am 100% sure the team knows that there have been issues with communication, roadmap, disagreements with update schedules etc. maybe i trust too much, who knows. but i still trust! and at this point, thats all we can do.
and aside from all those arguments and the whole wall of text; it does not help to add speculation like “seasonal wipes every update suck” or “team only nerfs game is broken” etc. sure we can voice or opinion, thats what EA and this forum is for, but we need to also stay realistic. things like that just won’t expedite anything, they are rather counter productive.
