Enemies de-spawning

I understand that this is a thing in Souls-like games, but it is very frustrating to whittle down an enemy’s health only to have it warp back to its starting area because you’ve kited and dodged so much that it’s outside of the zone it’s supposed to operate in. Sometimes it happens off-camera, sometimes right before your very eyes!
In a game like this, strategy seems to be emphasized…except when your strategy is “divide and conquer” or to use your mobility and the space (sometimes very limited!) the environment offers to your advantage.
I’m hoping there is a way to balance the difficulty of certain enemies with the apparent need for the game to keep them confined to a particular zone.
