Dodging while blocking bug since 1/27/2026 Patch

Since the 1/27/2026 Patch, when playing on PC with a controller.

While I’m holding up my shield and try to dodge. I instead do the Dashing attack (previously I would do this by holding dodge and then hitting attack which still works as well.)

This makes it so that I’m unable to dodge while blocking, and if I attempt to, I lunge towards the enemy.

Ideally, I would like it to go back to how it was before where I could dodge while holding up my shield, but a setting that adjusts how it works would be good too if the change was intentional.

While using a Medium Shield, I am able to hold block, and press the dodge button to initiate a "Dash attack”.

I’m on a xbox one controller, playing on PC, and can hold the LB (Block) and press A (Dodge) to initiate a “Dash attack”.

Nothing is in my LB ability slot either:

Below is what I have currently equipped to better reproduce if it’s only this shield that is causing this.

I have the same problem, and came here to report it.

I’ve tested this with multiple shield types and without shields, and holding the block button when dodging will always trigger a dashing attack. This applies even if you have no shield or a shield with an enchantment that disables blocking.

What do you mean, you lunge? You jump forward? Because that is not happens with MK.

I can’t dodge while holding the shield, i have to release it to dodge (and THIS need to change, a dodge should override everything, even the shield block being hold), but the character doesn’t jump forward. It makes veeeeery slow steps forward…

Also, now, if i attack holding the shield up, after the attack end, the shield goes back up, and it wasn’t doing before this patch (thank god now that happens, because before i had to click AGAIN the shield block button, don’t remove this new change!).

Thanks guys, I have forwarded this issue.

EDIT - MORE INFORMATION:

After some trial and error, this issue can be recreated even without a shield equipped.

ISSUE: When using a controller on PC, when holding down the “Block” button (Left bumper), REGARDLESS if you have a shield equipped or not, when you press the “Dodge/Evade” (A button), your character will perform a variant of a lunge attack.

I’ve tested and it does this with any weapon equipped, with or without a shield.

THANK YOU!

I thought I was going crazy!

I’m playing on PC and using an Xbox controller and this problem has gotten me killed so many times before I realized what was going on.

To recreate the issue:

  1. Play game using a controller.
  2. Use and hold shield block (LB on xbox contoller).
  3. Press Dodge/Evade button (A on controller).

Preferred result: Character performs a dodge roll.

Actual Result: Character performs a lunge attack.

Hey! While holding up a shield (blocking) my “A” button for some reason changes it’s mechanic from “Dodge” to “Attack”. Is this intended? I can’t find if this is an option and I can’t remember if it was this before this last patch. But now it feels very off. For what it’s worth, this is not how I want it. If I want to attack from/while blocking my shield, I’d simply use my attack button which is “X”. As of now I can’t roll out of blocking, I have to release the block button and then redo it, when doing this my character de-targets the mob/boss and everything goes to s..t  Is anyone else experiencing this? Or am I paying very differently from everyone else?

It seems like a bug. You are not imagining things, it was working correctly before the patch, block/dodge was in fact not lunge/attack and much more intuitive. I also now having major issues in combat since this change.
