Destroying weapons/armor to gain recipe

A quality of life feature I am missing is the ability to create recipies by dismantling gear. Especially for the really rare weapons it is quite frustrating to only find blue gear or finding white gear only to enchant into blue.

The possibility to get recipies like this would allow the players to use the crafting system more in depth and interact with it more.

I feel like sacrificing the very same weapon or even two of the same would be a fair trade for a recipie.

Either this or allow for re-enchanting of weapons to get the desired enchantment type would be a great feature.

Agreed!

I’ve got a vast collection of gear (almost 2x of everything).. but still cant get a “plagued” Keyblade.

Every single one I get is either already blue or turns blue via enchant.
*So it’d definitely be nice to have a “re-enchant” or perhaps using a torn effigy, you can “corrupt” any gear automatically into a purple?

That said, I like the idea of “dismantling = learning the blue print”.

As for crafting.. a few questions.

  1. Should they remove “runes” from crafted weapons?
  2. Would you like to see any improvements to the crafting menu/setup/requirements?

For me personally, I advocate for the rune system to be reworked so you can “dust” and craft whatever runes you want from the enchantress.

Essentially replacing the current system with one similar to how Hearthstone handles card creation.

I’d also consider the crafting system from FFXIV.
*Making it a fun little mini-game that allows you to “perfect” your crafts.

Crafting blueprints are rare drops from chests and plagues, making them a big part of the late game and giving the player motivation to play after completing the storyline. Adding this mechanic would greatly devalue the late game.In this topic, I can only suggest making the loot from chests a little easier. I suggest either removing already studied blueprints from the drop rotation for those that are not available, or simply replacing them with another reward resource, etc., so as not to fill the inventory with useless paper, or reducing the chance of getting already studied blueprints.

Hmm.. good point.

Tho, it makes me wonder if crafting recipes “should” drop at all.

Most games simply put in a “skill tree” for crafting levels.
*The more you craft, the higher your level, the more things you can now craft.

Seeing as I have no interest in the “multiplayer” aspect coming to the game.. I lean more towards a less restrictive system.

That said, perhaps some recipes should be unique and drop off specific bosses/mobs?

Although, simply locking a crafting component as a boss drop would have the same effect.

  1. Hmm to be honest i dont think the crafted weapons need to remove runes. Im not sure if it works on all weapons but you can just destroy a slotted rune on a weapon. I just want to be able to ”stick” with a weapon that i really enjoy and use it for several different builds. Like right now im looking for a plagued spirit edge but im stuck with like 7 blue ones…

  2. Good question, I think I would like it to be more interactive and versitile, allowing for crafting of (eventually) every weapon once you have created the recipie for it. This would make it so that finding a weapon you like with the wrong enchantment is still a step in the right direction to getting what you want.

I understand what you mean with the rune system but to be honest i dont think that it would be better with the system in hearthstone. As it is right now you can find almost any rune on weapon drops. I often try out the rune-attacks before selling the weapons i dont want, just to see if i want to extract that rune.

As it is right now the descriptions of the runes are not really sufficient for the system used in hearthstone. They would have to add a short video of the attack or someting. But i fear that it would trivialize the search for good rune-attacks too much in my opinion.

Fair enough..

Though you could limit what runes you can create based on the ones you’ve “discovered” (much like the crafting system, until you destroy the weapon to learn how to craft it).

That or perhaps go the Elden Ring route?
*Secret “recipes” (you find via exploration or boss kills) brought to the enchantress to improve her crafting knowledge.

I would love the ability to create recipies by dismantling an item. But I would also like the materials required to craft an item to be easier to obtain in a relaiable way.

It wouldn’t change much for the late game recipe hunting you’re talking about.

You can’t get the items for these recipes from RNG you can only craft them and so you can’t learn the recipe from an item you don’t have anyway since you need to destroy the item to get the recipe.

Thats true, however rare items should still be rare items in my opinion. If there is a surefire way to get the rarest weapons in the game that wouldnt really be fun either

That’s a really solid idea. Being able to dismantle gear, especially duplicates or rare items, to unlock recipes would definitely make crafting more engaging. Re-enchanting weapons for different effects would also help reduce the frustration of getting unwanted enchantments. Either option would add more depth and flexibility to the system.
