During game start it will sometimes crash before the splashscreens even begin. However, when it does reach the main menu it crashes upon entering a realm with a character (every single time). I have attempted to verify the files in steam and it did not help. I have turned my computer off and on again, as well as updated nvidia drivers, nothing helped. The game would load fine before this patch (with rare sporadic crashes before that).

You can probably circumvent that by not clicking on repeat, but load a realm directly, possibly with loading from last whisper.
Try that until they have a fix.
I haven’t been click spamming. Even getting to the title screen requires me carefully knowing when I can and can’t click (if I don’t click its stuck on a black screen, if I do at the wrong time it crashes).
Right now the only way to get into the game has been loading from last whisper. Loading into the game is abysmal though, takes a good 7 or so minutes. It didn’t use to be this way before the last patch. And I also could continue normally.
