Consider AI NPC comments to avoid annoying repetitions

This game is absolutely AMAZING and is definitely what the ARPG genre needs.

Anyways, the only urgent thing I would like to see addressed right away is how much NPCs keeps repeating their dialogue when you walk by, or just idle next to them.

I’m fine with walking around town a lot, but hearing all of this dialogue over and over and over again starts to get silly.

Anyways, i cannot WAIT for more of this game!

I approve this demand

THE SALVATION GIRL

You all know who I’m talking about.

Great acting, really, but is there any possibility she remains silent ?

Btw the game is great, you’re doing a great job Moon Studio, I can’t wait to see what’s next

/s Can we, at least, kill her ?

Definitely want the town npc’s to quiet the hell down. They don’t need to say their one line every single time we walk past them. They either need more lines or to only say their line the first time you pass them each play session or something.

isn’t it about time you trade that silly outfit for uniform?

why kill men for free ? when you could be payed for it !

I’d just give them more lines, and quiet noises, like grunts, or coughs, etc. I don’t want them to be silent. I like the noise. I just don’t like the same phrase every time I roll past.

I’d probably also do a WoW city noise background too, with the sounds of indistinct chatter, bells, wood on wood, etc, etc. You know what I mean.

For the 13 hours I’ve played of this game, I’ve loved about half of it so far. one almost one whole half is due to me never playing an ARPG souls like in my life, but a fair bit of that half is due to the NPC’s.

there is a thing about the NPC’s that you simply walk past that really gets on my nerves. they always say the same thing. every time. without fail. and it is a problem if you have to go back and forth through sanctum or if you keep dying a bunch and need to pass by an NPC to get to the same area.

my most note worthy experience was when i was still new to the game: i kept dying to the monster in the war room. but i didn’t give up for a while. i was being too offensive, didn’t know when to back off, and was trying to parry every single attack. and i absolutely refused to dodge. every single time i passed by that one large area to get to the war room, the lady would start shouting “THEY WILL CLEANSE THIS SSIICKENED ISLAND!!!” (i know it’s not the exact voice line) and it didn’t take long before i was properly annoyed, and then down right infuriated. i stopped fighting the monster in the war room because of it. i couldn’t stand listening to that SAME VOICE LINE every single time.

a simple fix would be to make NPC voice lines as you pass by them more rare. like, the NPCs don’t NEED to say something when you pass by. they could just say nothing, and that would be totally fine. variety in dialog that is said would also be good, though i recognize that that option is 100x harder due to having to get people to come up with voice lines, and then get other people to say them, and then put them in the game, and so on and so on. it would just be easier to make the NPC’s just not talk as much for now.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this

If I run through the city I always get the same oneliners from NPCs, this gets quickly annoying- at least for me.
I really don’t understand, why no game dev gives more love to the audio environment, this a very important part of the immersion.
And those repetitions of NPC comments are one of the most annoying things in games (at least for me).
So, either give them a bigger pool of oneliners or use AI to get some flavor to the audio envirenment.

NPCs chat way too often, standing in town next to the blacksmith hearing him repeat the same lines over and over again becomes tiring quite quickly.
All souls games I played are tense until you die the first time, the good ones make me want to try again and the bad ones just get an uninstall, so far this is fun.
Why are there 1-4 copper blue beacons everywhere? Is it to show that I havent been here yet or is there a different reason?
I found that I can swim pretty much anywhere by resetting my stamina in areas that arent necessarily meant to do so.
Is there a way to find out how much gold/experience I lose on death with cursed item without testing it?
Is friendly fire between enemies desired? I just wait for the archers to weaken the melees before I kill them.
My fps is alright, but only if i dont have anything else running in the background cough chrome cough, which drops me to 20-30 otherwise.

So far had 1 bug where I couldn’t open a red chest. Otherwise pretty smooth.

I will probably come up with more thoughts later on, will update if I do find something.

i say more, when coop release, it will be friendly fire to u too, from your team)
So, its good.

Other you problem “standart” for all, they work on it.
Good to see, that you have fun :+1:

Even if you like it the way it is, an accessibility option to tune it down or off entirely would be good. For instance, whenever you spend 10 seconds near the smithy he can’t seem to shut up at all about steel. There are too many barks at all times from all npc’s and after dozens of hours it gets grating. Super minor problem in the short term, weird in the long term. I get it produces immersion when correctly implemented but now it just produces irritation.

So I was doing some inventory management right next to the blacksmith when I logged into the game today, and oh my god he just kept mumbling those few lines over and over. It was very annoying to say the least. I wonder if the devs could add an option to mute all NPC self-talk?

Or…. “maybe it’s time you trade in that silly outfit for a uniform!” :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Jokes aside, I think having the choice via an option is always a good idea, so I support the proposal. Even though I wouldn’t enable it myself because I like the bit of life it adds when walking past NPCs, I do wish they wouldn’t talk SO often, especially when I’m standing still.

Dev may make NPC only say their lines once , no need to make they recite in a loop ,it’s not only boring ,it’s annoying, Imagine this: you’re walking down the street, and someone suddenly starts loudly reciting Shakespeare right next to your ear as you passing by. The first time, it might be intriguing. But by the hundredth time, you’re probably looking for a stick to shut it up.
