Yes i did so too because my Controller is fudging with me whenever i eat food it switch weapon xD(buttons too small)

They really need to add this. Legitimately thinking of redoing my character because of this. A two-part solution to this, I think, would be great:
One is to skip any empty slots. A MUST, it is so damn annoying to cycle off an empty slot. There is no point to it
Then ADD a hold function to the weapon buttons that would allow you to unequip the weapon. This way you could have ur offhand for torches, AND just be able to run around without weapon out (A sheath function essentially) Some prefer to explore this way and I happen to be one of em.

Can you please address this? I had to create a new character and make sure I don’t upgrade weapon slots, to make the game playable again.
Some people actually want to select the blank slot, it is the way you select your bare fist. I’ve seen some people do play throughs using just their fist to punch.
This is also handy for getting your character in the empty-hand state, for things like screenshots etc.
There are also times when you want to remove the bonuses or stats from a certain slot. Or play with only your offhand, or only your 1H weapon. If you could not select the blank slot, this would not be possible.
The problem you have of being able to select the blank slot, is a minor one compared to NOT being able to select the blank slot for many use-case scenarios.
Having to cycle through 2 empty slots is a lot worse, then going to inventory and remove your equipped weapon for your screenshot. But let’s not compare who is the bigger victim. What about having an option to disable empty weapon slots, so we don’t have to cycle through them unless we want to?
Sometimes you play frost + physical to shatter, it’s annoying having the 3rd empty slot to cycle through each time you want to shatter an enemy, far more often than you take a screenshot.
Cold Weapon in Slot 1, Physical Weapon in slot 2. I mean, is that really complicated? And you’ll know whenever you’re using your Physical weapon it’s two-taps to get to your Cold weapon.
It’s not complicated so why don’t you understand?
Slot 1 = Frost
Slot 2 = Shatter (physical)
Slot 3 = Empty
Now you have to tap twice each and every time to want to switch back to physical. Great annoyance.
Lets say
Slot 1 = Weapon
Slot 2 = Empty
Slot 3 = Empty
You accidentally switch weapon and want to go back, and you have to cycle through and additional empty slot. Double up on annoyance.
So why not add a feature that can “lock” a slot, whether it’s equipped with a weapon or not, so you don’t cycle through it? That way we both get what we want
i personally do not think this is a bug. we currently have no other means of unequipping our weapon. we can’t sheathe it, and switching to bare hands needs menuing.
i just do not unlock slots i do not need with my character, so i never have this issue. and 1 or two additional button presses to switch weapon slots in my opinion are not even mildly inconvenient. if you have only one weapon equipped you would never touch that button anyways, and when switching between two weapons tapping it once more is like 5 ms. going into menu, navigating to the slot and unequipping is much more of an hassle.
in any case, i will ask if this is intended or a bug.
I agree that it’s not a bug, but it’s still a problem, and it’s been reported multiple times (at least 3 times from what I’ve seen).
me too, I have only one character with 3 slots instead of 2 and I don’t use it for this very reason

It’s slower and annoying, annoying enough to make a new character XD
You can take off the weapon to take a picture you are not in the middle of the action, if you really insist that pulling out basic punches is an important thing they could also make a simple setting “skip empty slots”.
You want the devs to do all that work, simply because you think double-tapping is too much work. /smh

It’s not something particularly difficult to implement, it doesn’t take a lot of time, nor complicated code, pressing the button takes time, just enough time to change the outcome of a fight, for example I had to switch between the bow and the shield to make a perry, if I had to click twice I’m sure I would lose the timing and not be able to do it as well anymore
Not to mention all those people who have a shitty D-pad (almost all controllers under €25)
Different people have different sensitivities, for example I have a friend who finds it annoying when a game sometimes goes below 120-60 fps (depending on the game), annoying enough to not play it, and so when it happens he decides to wait to do an upgrade.
Umm… you can parry with your weapon if I am not mistaken. If you have a shield on, it will just do the animation with that instead.
Yes but my shield has spells that make me do damage + more focus + more stamina when hit a perry

When we start out with only 1 weapon slot, we have no means of unequipping. So we never had. Unless we do it through the menu.

And just because you deem it “not even mildly inconvenient” doesn’t make it so for other players. I find this the most inconvenient annoyance in the game, next to falling of the ledge in Crucible.
Did you not read what was said? If you play frost + shatter build, you literally have to change weapon all the time, then 1 additional button press is a huge deal. But okay.

Maybe you didn’t read what I wrote, but heal is D-pad Up, switching weapons is D-Pad Right. Those two buttons are just next to each other. In the heat of battle, you are max stressed out, you accidentally hit “d-pad right” instead of “d-pad up” and now you wonder why you didn’t heal and where your weapon went, maybe even lose the battle. But okay.
If you have unlocked all weapon slots but they are not equipped with weapons, it should not switch to a free slot.
For example, when healing with food in a combat, it can happen overclicking to change the weapon as well.
This issue has been discussed many times already, I don’t know how the devs missed it. The most recent discussion is this one: Please fix this (Empty weapon slots still selectable)
