I want to start by saying that I absolutely love this game, it’s really incredible the work the studio has done and how it is coming together at this point.
Everything has been great so far except one thing: I have very frequent and random crashes and I cannot for the love of me figure out why.
To summarize, usually when I start a session (I play coop with a friend), I will have several crash instances after seconds of playing. The message every time: “Norestforthewicked.exe is not responding”. Every time I have to open the task manager, end the task and launch the game again.
What is weird is that sometimes (rarely unfortunately) I can play 1, 2, or even 3 hours without encountering issues. Sometimes it will be every 10 minutes, sometimes after 10 seconds of playing. I couldn’t identify a pattern.
At first it was happening a lot in the menus, then later on it stopped entirely and seemed to happen when I enter a new zone/sub-zone. At this point, I don’t really see a clear pattern, just that it happens and it’s always the same behavior: image freezing>black screen>return to windows.
I’m posting today because it really plagued my previous session, to the point I had to tell my friends that I was fed up and I will call it a day. I’m talking over 10-20 times in a row of crash within seconds>restart game>crash, etc.
Every hour would be viable, but every 10 seconds or even minutes is not manageable. This is why I decided to come here for help. I love the game so much I was even ready to change GPU just to be able to play it, but I’m not going to pull the trigger since I do not know if it will solve the problem or not.
System requirements:
MoBo: Gigabyte B650 gaming AX V2
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7800x3d
Ram: 32gb
GPU: AMD Radeon 7900 GRE
Storage: SSD NVMe
Attempted so far:
- Verified the game files on steam, all good.
- Adjust graphic settings in game: I think I tried pretty much everything at this point. From ultra low to ultrs high graphics, it doesn’t seem to change anything. V-sync on/off, FSR/TAA, no change.
- Use AMD “chill” feature to limit FPS. I saw a post saying it solved it. It didn’t for me, I tried both to limit to 60fps in game and with AMD software, nope.
- Change bios settings: Disable XMP, disable DDR5 booster, Enable Global C-state control
- Reset the entire PC, fully clean install
- Benchmarked my hardware: Cinebench multicore test ~16,600, 3D Mark timespy: ~20,000 / Graphic score: ~23,000 / CPU score: ~11,900. Temps look normal
- I usually play with a Gamesir Xbox Series controller, I have read that it may cause issues, so I tried with a Dualsense controller instead, same result
- I tried to disable Discord and Steam overlays, with no difference
- I do not use Wallpaper Engine
- I tried to launch the game as administrator and with each compatibility modes, no difference
Any help would be welcome, I want to keep playing but these conditions are tough.
