Chance to get purple gear have to go

So the possibility to get purple gear on enchant have to go. The possibility to break your build entirely is just to large. It has happened almost every single time I got a purple. It has gotten so bad I dread to enchant an item.

Like now. Managed to find a faith shield recipe. Getting the resources was an effort but I made it. Even the malformed skull. Crafted it. Enchanted it. Purple. Got reduced focus gain as facet and focus drain as a drawback. Tried rerolling it. Got life drain. Rerolled it again. Got focus drain. Out of embers (as I’ve needed to reroll every frikking purple I’ve got, to be fair I’ve been unlucky). My build is a focus on block generating tank. To cast rune attacks. So focus drain and life drain are no go. The result is that I can now not cast rune attacks in combat. Only do the basic attack because I get no focus. I can’t kill the enemies I previously could. I can’t heal. I can’t craft a new shield since I have no malformed skull and the vendor isn’t selling one atm. I’m just deflated. This feels like crap. This was suppose to be a nice upgrade that I was looking forward to. Been chasing a faith shield for a while. Now I just don’t want to play.

Please let us enchant things to blue without a drawback with one resource/vendor function and have a DIFFERENT resource/vendor function to take a gamble and get purple with a drawback.

Edit 2026-02-06, 23:57: So I persevered and got a bit further. I have now found embers that does exactly what I asked for above. Which is great! My despair could have been avoided though with some ingame tips that there are different embers that can be used for various crafting purposes. Not just fallen embers for rerolling. I´ll just avoid the store enchant for now. Unless I have embers than can reset an item back to normal.

I don’t get it.

If you are partial to a particular item for it’s aesthetic or facet, and you get an unusuable plagued enchant from rolling the dice at Eleanor, then you have two options:

  1. Spend fallen embers to reroll the plagued enchant until you end up with something usuable
  2. Spend void embers to reset the item to common so you can roll the dice on another enchant

These essences were made for precisely these situations. There are no other use case for these items. So we already have solutions to your problem.

The current system is unnecessarily complicated.

It would be enough to make so that enchanting a white item turn it Blue, and enchanting a Blue item turns it Purple.

Those two new embers they added (Awakening & Corrupting) are a rather unreliable (because you have to get them via RNG) and unintuitive solution.

I’m rather new to the game and I have not experienced the old system, did it use to be as you described?

As for the OP I don’t understand the issue… purple gear give stronger enchantments with a negative one that can be rerolled to something not harmful to one’s own build.

We could also literally craft items by extracting enchants from other items and placing them on the one we want.

No, it’s just my idea.

If you have the Embers.

Yes but he is bothered by curses, and then the Essence Ember also have to be found they are a limited resource.

Current: I had no clue there was embers that could do other things and I was out of fallen embers. Like I said I have been really unlucky with my cursed effects. But now I’m just happy there are more flexible solutions in the game already. Albeit hidden behind the luck of finding them but thats fine.

That is true, but I have started having issues with them only when I was trying to craft a very specific piece of gear.
I have been able to play with less than perfect purple gear up to endgame.

Desrocchi: Blue gear was what I wanted xD. I only got problems when I got purple gear.

You don’t have to be alarmed by the curse: it is a detriment that you have to play around to in the end have a much more powerful piece.

Blue gear is just a stepping stone, it should never be your goal.

Ofc purple will be the goal at some point. When I can build around it. But at the power level I´m at blue is better than purple since, so far, the curses have literally bricked my build. In the example above I went from 26 focus on block plus 1 focus a second to zero on block and lose 1 focus a second. And I had no embers left to fix it.

I could ofc have refrained from enchanting a key piece in my build but enchanting gear felt like the intended path forward. Now I know there are options.

You didn’t keep your old gear before using the new one?

I did but that shield had strength requirements that I just specced out of. I couldn’t specc back since I had no fallen embers left. Rookie mistake not knowing the chance for cursed purple gear was so high and not planning ahead.

Look, I empathise that losing a piece of gear is really a bad experience, but the game is quite doable by just buying (or crafting) a blank substitute item, and filling it up with 4 gems instead of enchantments.

That way you also have full control on what the item result is.

Thx, and yes. Which is how I got out of my predicament. I bought an inferior lighter shield and just socketed 4 gems into it. Not good gems, since I don’t have many but it was something. It felt bitter though. Since most blue effects would have been better. But it got me out of the hole. I found another malformed skull after a while and could do a more sensible craft with some new embers, unknown to me until then.

Yes, of course, but did you see the list of curses? (Full List of Enchantments)
They are ridiculous, they are either so strong that they make the item useless, or they are so stupid that you can ignore them, it’s just a matter of luck.

@Kodesh @Current @desrocchi In your opinion, is the enchantment system implemented well?

I don’t think so. It shouldn’t be possible to have such a negative experience just because of the RNG.

And there are also cases of opposite situations where the game becomes too easy because of the RNG. It happened to my brother, and it ruined his first experience with the game because he beat all the bosses on his first try.

If you are interested in this discussion I recommend you read this: The RNG Problem, Enchantment System & Gem System “TOGETHER” (Update).

Yes, quite frankly I tried rerolling a negative effect on one of my main items thinking 25 tries were enough and ended up with an item so unusable I had to reframe my entire build to even be able to play.

Sure this is EA and it’s absolutely a positive to give feedback on these things, but I think they’re already moving things with the introduction of classes and class specific gear.

On “The RNG Problem, Enchantment System & Gem System” I did a rework of the negative effects:

image Cursed Chipped Moon Stone
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but Lose 7-5 to 30-20 Focus (based on Damage taken) each time you take Damage

imageCursed Small Skull
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but take 15%-10% extra damage for 10-7 seconds each time you take Damage, this effect can stack up to 4 times

image Cursed Chipped Emerald
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but Lose 25-17 Stamina on Focus Use

image Cursed Chipped Marble
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but The gem effects of this item only work when you have more than 60%-40% Health (excluding balanced gems)

image Cursed Chipped Topaz
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but The gem effects of this item only work when you have more than 53%-30% Focus (excluding balanced gems)

image Cursed Chipped Jede
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but take 30%-20% extra damage for 3-2 seconds each time you roll

image Cursed Tiny Feather
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but Equip Load Decreased by 6%-4% for 6-4 seconds each time you roll this effect can stack up to 4 times

image Cursed Chipped Granite
Same for all gear: Add 2 gem slots but Stagger Resistance decreased by 38%-25%

I made them in such a way that they are on the same strength level so there are some that are unusable and some that are easily unignorable.

And I have also made it so that I do not punish the player just for existing, but only when he makes a mistake.

The class system replaces the attribute system not the enchantment system: PSA - An overview of the upcoming class system

Huh…. looking at downsides on shield. I wasn’t unlucky. It was almost rigged from the start…

4, maybe 5 out of these 7 instantly killed my build or made it significantly worse. Early game 6 of them (I couldn’t handle the focus cost, had it for a while).

So yeah, a change would be good. Definitely for the early game as it stands. Since my experience above is mostly from not having embers to handle the crafting differently. I had to employ enchanting the first 10-15ish levels (if I wanted to improve the item), with only a few rerolls available. And looking at the list I can se why it was hell with my build when I got a purple. Had I known I would have left it normal and slotted the gems I found as I went along.

Not sure if it’s sustainable in a way later in the game, but Drain Health in Combat seems completely unusable for me at the moment. I tried to run it and even when not getting hit by enemies it was rough. Then it would often make me die in 1 hit during combat which was simply not worth the enhancements it gave. Considering the alternative to not being 1 shot is waste all my focus on heals instead of attacks, it seemed like it was a strict downgrade compared to even grey gear.
