Autojump does not work well and it causes accidental deaths.
Example:
Please make jumping a manual action with a separate button!

Can’t agree more,AutoJump sucks!
It makes me very cautious every time I get to the edge of a cliff.
Even if you relax a little and press the run button on the edge of a cliff that you don’t want to jump at all! congratulations, you are a dead person!
I know that this design involves the underlying interaction logic between the character and the terrain,It is difficult to change this design, but it really sucks.
Moon Studio,Please, have you guys even played this game yourself? If you have ever played it, I don’t believe you haven’t accidentally fallen to death because of this.
i think nothing killed me more then autojump, sometimes it jumps when i don’t want it, and times it does not jump when i do
i think the idea is good, but it’s close to impossible to implement.
I agree, it’s a really annoying mechanic.
I don’t have much problem with it using controller. Felt pretty natural. I’ll bet its not good using k/m.
There is that one level within the crucible with all of the stone bridges. The final few “jumps” I am so inconsistent with making and end up just walking off to my death
I decide in crucible throw bombs on some mobs because I did not want risk jumping off path, that was my main cause of death on the way to boss in crucible…
Parachute/glider update for us gravity-challenged lads, please…
Why would it be close to impossible to implement?
my guess is that they have to generalize the way the engine knows when to jump or not, or else they would have to set this by hand to every single place you had to jump. so when making the map they have to pay extra attention on how “tall” things are (and possibly other parameters) to determine if a jump should occur or not, and it’s really hard to test if every single place in the game is working as it should.
The only rule currently seems to be if it’s a ledge, you auto-jump. And there are already A LOT of ledges in the game. There are already a lot of jumps you can make that kill you (i.e. jumps you shouldn’t make) or get you to the same places you can go by just walking (i.e. unnecessary jumps)
They wouldn’t really need to check if every single place is suitable for jumping, only the places that might cause sequence breaking, and prevent those. (And sometimes not even those, that could even be a neat feature in itself like in metroidvanias)
wont this stop you killing yourself all together? you should die if you make a wrong jump. the problem is when it jumps/won’t jump on unexpected times
I didn’t say they should disallow us from jumping to our death. I am saying we should be able to jump anywhere on demand.
What I was saying in my previous post was, adding a manual jump wouldn’t need that much testing because jumping is already a commonplace thing in the game rather than being a rarity
ah sure, but i was talking about the implementation on auto jumping, for manual jumping this would not be a problem. i wonder what was the devs expectation, what problem were they solving implementing this.
for sure if there is a ladder or some vines around it sucks to see the character decide to dive down rather than climb down.
