Armor Penetration how does it work?

Hi

Is there anyone who can help me understand Armor Penetration ?? Is it only worth stacking on physical builds and not elemental ect? and How does it work,

Thank you

I am also curious about the exact mechanics. What I can say is that it does work on elemental damage. Both my lightning and physical builds were improved by it. My perception is that it is a pretty mandatory stat. If you feel like you aren’t hitting hard enough and have no armor pen, that is probably why.

I was wondering the same thing! Does it make any sense to get this trait in more than one piece of equipment?

For what I get, enemy bosses have armor, that negates a percentual amount of damage.

And when you have “Armor Penetration”, you can pierce that armor, allowing you to deal more damage to the current boss.

So, in short version, the more Armor Penetration you have, more damage the boss will receive.

Armor pen is how much of the enemy’s resistances you penetrate. As an example, if the enemy has 50% physical resistance, and you have 50% armor penetration, then your damage will be based on 25% physical resistance. This applies to all resistances, including elemental. Bosses generally have more resistances than trash. The more resistance an enemy has, the more damage increase you are getting from armor pen. I personally cap it in all my builds.

My planner is showing over 100% on frozen enemies.

Do we know if we can do extra dmg?

sources on Discord (@Dammitt) say that ARPEN is capped at 100% and i can confirm that with a lot of ARPEN all mobs take the same damage

Prolly not extra, but frozen enemies have even more resistances than normal, so may be related to that.

This is probably about the ‘Frozen Enemy Armor reduced by’ enchantment for chest armour.

I have tested this, at least partially: 100% armour penetration fully penetrates frozen enemies’ resistances, and the chest enchantment provides no further benefit. I didn’t test if it secretly provides armour penetration (i. e. reduces resistances by a percentage) or reduces armour (i. e. reduces the value that resistances are calculated from).

Oof no wonder I was unimpressed with the chest enchant. I already had plenty of armor pen.
