5 things that are keeping me from playing

I really want to love this game but I find myself turning it off after an hour because of the frustrating systems in place.

First - healing is a mess. Having to farm and cook or be forced to spam eat non cooked items is infuriating. The game would benefit so much from a flask or permanent healing item that is replenished at fires or whispers.

Second- I hate feeling like there was no thought put into the inventory systems. Both on person and in chests I’ve never had a harder time trying to manage inventory - ever - in any game. It’s like there was an attempt to do something new and QA was out of the question. Please expand chests to be unlimited at the very least.

Third- why in 2024 do I have to pull things out of my chest to craft or build? Running to and from my chests is such an annoyance. This is usually the part of my play time I turn it off. This is a crazy oversight and one that I hope gets corrected fast.

Fourth - no mini map - the map layout is confusing and having to cycle to my map to reorient is an awful feeling. Why no mini map? Seems like a weird omission to keep the hud cleaner.

Fifth- Item selection. I use and run out of items and am so confused why it just cycles to a random less useful item in the queue. Is there a way to set priority items that I am missing?

I want answer you.
Healing is not a problem at all. You just have to get Items and just to be clear, that is my more optimal gear. I get it, you don’t will have it early on BUT, 1 Item with 2% heal is enough to carry you without using Heal-Food.

I would also like a better Inventory System but, as well as healing, its a struggle in the beginning.
After you progress, you will find you managing Inventory with ease:

This is my Home, far from optimal because I could use already only big chests, but I startet with 1 space chest.

And at the point where I am, its not a problem at all.

  • Your 3 point is valid and I am sure the will do so.
  • Minimap in this game? We don’t play AC.
  • Items are like in Diablo a point of farming, if you farm enough, you get good rolls.

Hope it helps

  • And just to be clear. I playing right now new characters and I just get a weapon with no upgrade and only 2% hp leech and it’s really relaxed.
What you feeling is a well thought through progression , that let you feel stronger and better over time.

Your comments are mostly helpful - I think?

Early game is a frustrating disaster and you’ve confirmed that it’s not getting better for me for quite awhile which is disheartening and not good for new players trying to understand what the hell is going on.

Building and crafting are also HUGE annoyances and things I’m avoiding because of it. But if I have to suffer through these systems once to get a result or gear that can help me get to the place you’re at - maybe I’ll grit the ol teeth and suffer through

The mini map comment is a solid eye roll but - suppose it’s the nature of public forum. Can’t escape without one passive aggressive jab.

Agreed. There are some valid points in your post.

I don’t mind cooking in general, but food should heal more, even at the expense of being a little slower healing. This would reduce the frequency of cooking and eating food.

Honestly, part of my issue with food is actually related to combat in that I just can’t seem to time the parry so I’ve basically stopped trying and now just dodge or block everything. Unfortunately, that leaves me constantly healing, and on harder enemies with larger health pools, I often have to run away to heal multiple times because it’s too dangerous to hit more than once or twice when I almost always get a huge chunk taken off in the process.

It’s not really fun to always hit and run and never feel confident enough to stand my ground and attack and defend and just dodge attacks. I hate that parry even exists in its current state because I feel that I’ll never master the timing and others may have better digital dexterity. I don’t want to hear “get gud” as the only solution to the parry problem.

I watch videos of people parrying the boss attacks, but I can’t seem to master the timing and even trying is aggravating due to inconsistency and lack of progress. I’m feeling it’s just not fun to try parrying. I would rather that parry was a larger stance window that parried when an attack landed during the stance window and that parry just had a short cooldown to prevent spam repeat overuse (which is honestly a problem when people that are really good can just demolish everything with ONLY parry and never get hit) than forcing me to time a 0.2-0.5 second window that I’ll never feel confident enough to use.

The inventory size is too small and things don’t stack high enough so you end up having way too much space taken up because there are so many different things to gather. It’s also tedious to run halfway up the tower to get to your stash (which is also too small to hold everything). There should be multiple locations to access that shared stash around town at logical places like next to the blacksmith and other NPCs with trade/craft systems.

Also, where are the large chests!? There’s a large cupboard, but no large chest… It’s not that I can’t get the space I need with medium chests, but it’s really annoying I have to spread everything out in a dozen chests and never remember what’s in each.

You should also definitely be able to craft from stashes (both those in your house and the shared one halfway up the tower). I should be able to full dump all the gathering materials every time I go back to Sacrament and not have to buy more medium chests when I run out of space. Especially since I have to keep so much stuff that I can’t use until I can level up to get the attributes to try out the equipment that seems like it might be worth using.

I also agree with the item selection since it’s kind of awkward to change food or item in combat and once you use something, it puts a seemingly random choice there. It would be nice to be able to set a smaller list with like 1, 2, 3, 4 indicators and then short press to toggle and hold to use instead of tap to use and hold to manually cycle since that’s so awkward and time-consuming in combat. There’s a lot of ways I would customize the controls that would improve the system, but there isn’t a way to do what I want.

I would also like to tackle with right trigger and make the map key hold to do gestures since that’s never needed in combat and I have always hated pressing two keys at the same time for a skill.

One other thing I’d add is that enchanting system blows. You can enchant something and it has random stats. That’s fine. What I don’t like is that I never know if it will enchant as rare or plagued.

I’m fine with rare because it’s always an upgrade and there’s not really a reason to use more than two runes on a weapon since all runes compete for focus.

As far as gems, they are really meh since you can’t stack damage bonus gems, you can only choose one anyway.

The problem is that the penalties for plagued are so ridiculous… I would be fine having option to enchant rare or plagued, but not have that also random since all plagued items are basically garbage.

I haven’t found much of anything that’s even usable since I die so often and get hit so often, I can’t have penalties like reduced health, increased damage taken, experience loss on damage taken, experience loss on death, equip load reduction, stamina loss on damage taken… maybe the only thing that is tolerable is durability halved since I can repair every few deaths. That’s a whole lot of RNG layers to find a plagued item I would actually use.

To be fair. I didn’t want to make something else with the Mini Map comment.

But to give you a real answer.

  • Its doesn’t fit in this type of the game
  • I would be fine with optional Mini Map but then it’s a bit like forced to use it, because its so helpful sometimes. And yes, it’s a self-control thing, so I don’t care, as long as it isn’t forced.

I stopped trying to parry and have forgotten that system even exists. Completely useless and is going to become one of those niche skills a small group of individuals champion as novel and good.

The hard part about all of this is - I actually really LOVE the game setting and its potential. It’s just so damned frustrating.

Like I said. Grind to the City and enchant weapons until you get the 2% heal by dmg done.
Or you are lucky and get the ring or you can buy him.
I think, after playing 40 hours, it’s worth the struggle to get there and the fun kicks in.

1 personal tip.
You can start new realm with your main character, kill the first boss and the war room boss from the bounty a couple of times, run straight there and unlock all closed inventory slots.

You will get enough money to gamble the enchant and you have it really easy with inventory until you come to a area where it’s matters.

(it’s like 8-10 new realm runs to unlock all important slots.)

I’m frustrated by the parry system because I know there are elitists that have the timing to master it, but I don’t. I have never felt lacking in any game and often very good compared to average and even many good players, but one thing I lack is patience to time defensive skills when I already have reflex to dodge or block… having another option to parry is like overwhelming and that conflict hesitation combined with difficulty of timing makes it too tense to ever be able to relax and utilize.

An easy fix would be making parry into a 1-1.5 second stance that readies to parry and then activates automatically on receiving a hit during that window. Then, give the parry a short cooldown so it’s not overused. This would both balance out the overpowered players that are too good at timing and exploiting game and make it viable for players that can’t master the timing in the current state of the game.

It’s honestly cheesy to watch videos of people killing bosses with only parry and never attacking or getting hit.

I don’t like having to cheese grinds to get clinch bonuses.

The better solution would be to design multiple viable options so you don’t have to rely on things like heal on damage dealt as the only way to enjoy combat.

Those cheesy grinding methods really drain the fun out of a game.

Grinding is fun when gameplay is good and it’s automatic in the course of doing other things. When you have to grind just to get one specific thing, it becomes tedious when you keep not getting the only thing you need.

I really don’t think that this is cheesing, because you can’t get enough Ichor without using this method. After defeating open world bosses they don’t drop any Ichor anymore.

Leech is a skill, dmg taken heal is a skill, heal on parry.
The grind for it didn’t take long. The Ichor took me about 1:20hour. If this i tedious, i don’t know.

And just to show you a build I am playing without leech or anything, it’s my rough build.
I just avoiding hits, go behind them and one shot them :joy:

There are so many ways and the loop is fine, for me atleast.

And tweaks will be made. I mean it’s early access and they doing a good job.

Healing is not a problem at all. You just have to get Items…

Thats a problem, it felt broken up until mid game, maybe after fixes early game now play better, who knows, I didn’t create a new character yet. But before them healing was a joke, seen videos, people running with mushrooms, no herb to find, that was my experience too, so no healing for me. Only in black trench they game just poured food on me.

Why is it like this? Why for most vulnerable and valuable time, devs decided to give players no food, and if somebody persisted, they give so much food, that it doesn’t fit in inventory?

It’s a challenge, but one that doesn’t require skill, so it doesn’t makes game harder, only put more frustration in early game.

Making you items give you health farther proves the point, the food healing is bad, having gems for healing practically removed food usage for me, as it more efficient and doesn’t requires much dancing around at the start of the game. You removing part of the game, whats good about the system you just remove from your gameplay?

That’s not true. You can get ichor without cheesing because I’ve never cheesed farming ichor and I have most everything I want unlocked. I would like to unlock it all obviously, but occasionally, I run into the tougher enemies that drop it. They randomly spawn in areas I frequent so it’s slower than cheese farming new servers, but it isn’t necessary to cheese since they spawn in various locations every so often.

One place I’ve gotten two ichors from at different times is that round area in Orban Glade you can drop down into that has a ladder on the north side and a fire pit in the middle below. I’ve seen a couple baddies there that dropped ichor.

I said , that I did the same at the beginning. But atleast for me, after killing 3 of the tougher enemies that dropped Ichor, they never did again.

I cleared the whole game 4 times and I found 3 of the boss like enemies and they stopped dropping the Ichor.
So you have to options, farm the Crucible or start a new realm and because I did so where clay wasn’t able to drop. I had no choice anyway as to farm a new realm.
