It’s clear that you don’t value your time as much as myself and various other people value our time. I think that’s the biggest difference. Backtracking is not free, and there’s certainly not a whisper available every 30 seconds (including back AND forth) at every point in the game, and I am guessing they will get placed further apart as we go deeper into the game.
Stay mindful that we are seeing the absolute start of the game. In dark souls terms, this is the Asylum + Firelink to Taurus Demon, maybe Bell Gargoyles
Reviving this thread. In the Breach update whispers still don’t heal you, and I still want them to heal me.
This is a great game, but why mess with things that FromSoft has already perfected? Bonfires heal you, whispers should heal you.
Being artistic and opinionated seems unnecessary, but more than that: as a player I’m deeply hating that it’s better to get myself killed/jump off a ledge than to walk back to the whisper to get healed. It’s simply an unfun incentive
I don’t think I’ve ever felt the need to kill myself because I couldn’t heal. Food is abundant, and I always end up with more than before after exploring an area. Healing runes are quite good at what they do.
I mean, they had to rework food because it made health a non-problem in the previous version, so I really doubt whispers not healing you is what’s stopping you from having fun.
The only reason you would NEED whispers to heal you is if you didn’t even bother looking at the alternatives and just put there a “Should be like Dark Souls”.
You can be judgemental all you want, the fact you don’t have the problem me and other people are incurring doesn’t make it less of a real issue.
In the fortress even before Warrick, there’s more enemies than I can handle in 1 life and there’s not an abundance of food. So yes, I want to walk back to the whisper and heal myself before engaging the next few enemies.
Sure, it’s not an issue once you have more food than you can eat. But alas, the game doesn’t start with that luxury.
For the update we had to start the game from zero.
You start at the shores with, I think, something like 5 mushroom stews.
I died four times, face tanked a lot of enemies and spent something like 2 to 4 heals per combat, as I was getting used to the new wand weapon (I’m not liking it very much ).
I ended up in Sacrament with around 8 mushroom stews, something like 20 crab stews, a dozen of the stews you make with the roughcut meat and some higher-tier food I found along the way. No signs of food shortage.
The game starts with that luxury you mentioned, and it’s the reason I’m being so judgemental. The food is there and, forgive me for being so direct, it sounds like you might have missed it or even worse ignored it.
Great to hear it’s not a problem for you. Still doesn’t fix it for me or the other folks that have mentioned it before and all the folks that don’t come here but simply churn.
Maybe you don’t realize it, but you’re just gatekeeping.
If you don’t need the whisper to heal, why would you care that it does? You’ve got so much food anyhow, it doesn’t even make a functional difference to you anyhow. You can just enjoy your buffet when you are at the whisper, whereas for one reason or another, me and a bunch of other folks can not
I’m sorry, but if the problem you and all these other people are having is what you’re saying it is, then I’m not gatekeeping. Gatekeeping what? Your fun? By telling that food is there, you just have to take it?
Even if I’m being aggressive about it, my point is “Please engage with the game”.
If you’re having a problem you should try to solve it. Have you searched for more food? Have you changed your approach to combat to try losing less health? Have you explored for more resources? Have you checked for healing runes at the shop? My guess is no, because otherwise your problems would mostly be solved.
The game has a lot of problems, it’s early access after all, but the scarcity of healing resources is not one of them.
