Weighty Topic !?!

Have they adjusted the weight categories recently? I’m trying light builds and I have Wand, round shield, and four pcs Cloth armor equipped. I know I was under the normal bar, yet now I’m in normal band. Even if I drop the shield, I’m still in normal band. Wtf?

check if any of your Gear Pieces have a Plagued Downside/Curse/Debuff that say something like this: Equip Load reduced by .. %

Thanks askan94,

None of my gear had any of that. I did discover that the Facet of my cloth gloves made them heavier than some others, so I’ve swapped them out for different gloves that are 5 lighter, still normal weight.

They’ve definitely adjusted some stuff in the latest 29466 version, coz my shield no longer adds to my armor figure, so I’ve unequipped that. Even with lighter gloves and no shield, I’m currently 60 of 170 , which puts me on the line of shift into normal band, but still shows as normal.

So, the only way I can keep all 4 armor pcs and a light weapon and move into light/fast build, is to buff with charms, gems etc. That can’t be right, surely.

Shields have not been adding to armour in the inventory screen for a long while now, at least since Together, likely long before. Their armour is only active while blocking. Nothing related to this was changed in 29466.

60 out of 170 is roughly 35.3%, out of a weight allowance of 35% for quickstepping. Most of the time, hitting the exact percentage means you’ll be in the better of the two tiers (so at 70 out of 200, you’ll quickstep). There is a related bug, but that isn’t what’s happening in your case – you’re just too heavy by 0.3%.

Outside of rings, gems, or enchantments, one could place three points in the Equip Load attribute. That’s the intended way, surely.

Thanks Konrad, excellent info.

Given that we have limited attribute points. They require 36 in some fields for many weapons, with high figures in two fields for many weapons too. We shouldn’t have to spend those valuable points just to get in the lowest weight class? It’s not unreasonable to expect that a loadout using all light class gear should put you firmly in the light weight class, surely?

On the other hand, it’s a very small cost:

Three points in Equip Load are enough to quickstep with four pieces of cloth, a rapier and a shield (or double daggers) at exactly 70 out of 200, which pleases me aesthetically. In my opinion this leaves generous amounts for every other stat.

Alternatively, at minimum Equip Load with four pieces of cloth and a rapier, no shield, a single weight-reduced enchantment on the chestpiece leaves you at 58–59 weight, which is enough to quickstep. Generally this one enchantment is worth more than three measly points, though, which would also enable a shield for four more gems or enchantments.

Consider this build, which has plenty of everything:

That said, I partially agree with you. I wonder how the situation will change with the eventual removal of attributes. More specifically, I wonder if the class system will require a tax of one perk (or ring) to be in quickstepping territory even for the lightest builds. An entire perk would be a much harsher tax than three points in Equip Load, or one enchantment. It remains to be seen.

If you use Weight reduction Gems, Enchants and the Feather Ring well then you dont really need to sacrifice any attribute points ^^

I get your well made points guyz, thanks. For me it’s more that I just feel you shouldn’t have to apply tricks, simply to be in a weight distinction which they offer. Base stats should allow you to be securely in the light weight class, if you equip the lightest weight armor and weapon. After all, in choosing light, you’re losing out on protection, and with any of your fine suggestions, there’s always more helpful gems, charms and attribute point spends, rather than HAVE to use them just to be in an offered class. :slightly_smiling_face:
