Whether you’ve played No Rest for the Wicked or followed it closely, we’d love your thoughts on how you see the game - its genre, vibe, and who it’s really for.
I don’t think the question was asked on the form but the biggest issue I have with the game is content, there just isn’t enough. The story is great so far it’s just maybe 30 hours of content?
There is no real loot grind and no chase items, so the end game doesn’t have a lot of purpose, it’s just there to get your items to 16 when you don’t even need to get them that high as you’re already over levelled.
Why are we adding 400 curved swords? Why are we adding farming? Why not finish the story? Balance the combat? I get that people work on different things but…ok you add co-op. To do the same content? I don’t think that’s going to push the game forward. You can’t add PVP until you balance the classes and fix some fundamentally flawed interactions (freeze and shatter for example). PVP is even a risk. If not done right it just won’t be used, like in Diablo IV.
Reflecting back I feel like the game is being over promised. Too many things are being thrown at the wall when the things already sticking are slowly sliding off because they aren’t being fixed. Maybe the patch will fix this. But keep in mind that the Breach didn’t really fix things properly that were brought up a year ago. Combat is still busted end game. Crucible is worse. The Plague system has no real purpose, the torn stuff is just to upgrade a build that already destroys everything. And like, why does the RoD even exist?
Sorry if I’m being too negative. I just want the game to succeed.
You say not enough content… while I have over 550 hrs, and I didn’t touch the game for about four months before breach update. Now tell me what’s the difference between someone who can get this much play/enjoyment out of the SAME content you feel only has 30?
Many gamers today don’t seem to know how to really enjoy open world games. Instead it’s just a run-though list. As if the game owes you a completely new and different experience every minute you continue to play.
Even at 550+ I still find new designs and blueprints, and cosmetic/armor sets I’m still searching for.
I have 270hrs. But the reality is the main content is ~30 hours. That’s give or take how long it takes to get to max level with max gear. The endgame doesn’t have much purpose (so far). Most of my time is playing different builds (I have 9 if you include pre-breach).
MANY people will play one build, their favorite and call it a day. If you don’t believe me, you can check out all of the main streamers. They all ran through the story once and moved on to a different game. That’s just how it is.
I’m not saying a super fan can’t get way more mileage out of it. I already have gotten a ton of value. But I’m more of a super fan.
Unfortunately, Moon studios isn’t going to succeed just because TheGantrithor plays 550 hours.
This is how streamers play every game. They aren’t interested in the longevity or playtime enjoyment. They literally just run through the game. We should all hope game designers do NOT design their games around this metric. Because the industry and games in general would be worse for it.
If all you consider “valid content” is only anything you do while rushing from the start of the story to the end of the campaign, then buddy you’d be only robbing yourself.
Imagine people who have been playing FF14 etc for YEARS… do you think it’s play the campaign mission then quit the game? Certainly not.
There is a great many people who can and do grasp the cycle of repeating content and play in open world game genres, and I hope Moon Studios recognize this. Pretty sure I have more than 1000 Hours in Elden Ring over the years… as do many many many other people.
Certain games designed well have massive replay value, exploration value, and generally a repetition cycle in the gameplay itself. It’s not start to finish story then oh well that was nice. ARPGs especially revolve around repetition cycles.
Actually, you are completely wrong. ARPG streamers have thousands of hours in their favorite ARPGs. Sure, some ARPG streamers bounce back and forth between the ARPGs and some only stick to 1 or 2 and maybe dabble a little on the others. I haven’t seen any major streamer switch to this game as their primary game. Why is that? Be honest.
Elden ring is 60 hours, 100+ if you include side quests. That’s double what we have. So again, there needs to be more content. Not sure how else to explain this to you. There’s not enough content and not enough endgame. You’re delusional if you think otherwise based on how this game is marketed.
And my point, in case it wasn’t clear, is that content should come before a lot of the other planned additions, IMO.
ARPGs, at least the big ones (POE, D4, LE), revolve around seasonal content, which from what I understand is NOT what this game will be. The live service ARPGs introduce some new mechanic or powers every 3-4 months.
It’s more likely this game will be expanded on with DLC. Other areas of the world.
At the end of the day the sales numbers apparently aren’t what they had hoped. Perhaps providing constructive feedback will help rather than saying ‘It’s amazing I have 550 hours in it, change nothing!’. YMMV.
You seem to forget its a business for streamers. They stream what people watch. This isn’t the same as what someone actually likes to play.
And please tell me where I said it’s amazing I have 550 hours. I pointed out that perhaps HOW someone consumes content can make a difference in how much enjoyment and playtime they get out of a product. And there is no need for any developer to feel like they owe the player the answer to that difference.
If one person can get that amount of play time out of a product, so can the next person. If they choose not to, there is nothing wrong with them moving on to something else if they do not play games in that manner.
Also, gauging the amount of content by how much story progress the EA is at currently is silly as hell. It’s obvious it’s not done. So if there is currently 30 hours of STORY play, and the story isn’t done, obviously there is going to be more than that total.
The developers also needs affirmation from people who can indeed get play out of the content. Because they have no reason to feel like they owe the people who will rush through the content REGARDLESS of how much there is, some sort of neverending story.
I actually agree every word of this one. Even tho I myself played the game around 200ish hrs in total and have 2 different maxed out builds after breach I still wanna play and explore the game. So its not about the content its about what you do with the content in the game. Besides they are already planning add tons of endgame content and improvement for 1.0 version you @Warlan my friend are sound like pre conditioned so just let them cook and try to experience the game with different approachs instead of thinking it like playing the same game over and over again cuz’ otherwise that means this game is not meant for you.
Guys, these are not good stats. Saying let them cook isn’t helpful feedback. They literally sent out a ‘what are we doing wrong’ form yesterday. If you want to ignore reality, keep on being you.
This is not a live service game. And it’s in EA… not sure what you are expecting. People will play the content for a bit then stop, maybe revisit when there is a big update, some people will simply not; instead saving it for release so they don’t burn out. Some people just needed to experience it so they know its something they want to wait till full release to experience. Some people got in EA, misunderstanding that to be Early Access like how sometimes some games have a few weeks prior to release… and maybe decided they don’t want to deal with the bugs during development.
Trying to gauge the game’s success in design by how many people are currently playing based on what I mentioned above, makes no sense. They are not responsible for keeping you glued to the game for years while they develop it. It’s PERFECTLY fine to touch the game, especially during the initial hype and EA, and not touch it again till release.
