As i commented in this post, i think it’s good to collect as many opinions as possible on this question.
After Patch 1, refined materials can’t be purchased anymore, as the team would like us to use the crafting mechanics.
In general, Is the amount of time required to get the raw material and refine it too long in your opinion for upgrading your gear (especially tier 3, that requires a lot of refined material), or do you think it’s well balanced as it is ?
It is well balanced as it is
It takes way too long and need some adjustments

What do you think about the time required to collect raw ingredients for crafting ?
It takes way too much time
It takes barely too much time
It takes the right amount of time
It takes barely too little time

Don’t hesitate to comment bellow. If you think it takes way too long, just drop what material you think is missing loot quantity, or require too much of it to upgrade your gear
Edit 2: from @RomoloHero’s contribution, the poll can give now more precise results, for the devs to compare them.
I’m actually fine with T3 upgrades taking longer since that’s the highest we can get for now. Some materials are just rare because we can’t get to areas of that level.
T1 and T2 ores, wood and leather are relatively common since they come from farming nodes or drop from a lot of enemies (leather).
My only concern is cloth. Today I found a single flax thread - the first piece of cloth dropped in 3 days.
It wouldn’t feel nearly as slow if we had more control over enchanting and didn’t need to play another round of Eleanor Gacha every other day cause 25-50% of the enchantments turn out terrible.
Upgrading gear is the ultimate end game and I don’t think it should be trivialized. Giving you a sense of accomplishment is just so much more satisfying.
All these posts since the patch act like it’s the end of the world and how it’s so intolerably time consuming now. But the plain truth is you don’t upgrade every piece of trash you pick up. You do that only with pretty much BiS gear, after enchanting and infusing has gone right for it. Which pretty much means once per character build.
Why even have crafting and upgrading as mechanics in game if you could just skip it through paying some silver. And money is ridiculously easy to farm up atm.
Looking forward to enhanced costs of enchanting and infusing next.
Hey everybody, i just make a little sum-up of what we get so far.
With 22 votes, so far it’s 50/50, haha, it’s like the durability thing! So half of us think it’s too long to collect raw materials to refine, and than refine it, and the other half think it’s well balanced.
Now from the second and third poll, we have interresting datas coming up : most of us think it’s kind of too long to collect raw material, and also most of us think that refinement takes too long.
I hope people will continue to vote in order for the devs to have interresting datas, and also comment your specifics, like what are the raw material you are dealing with right now, and how is it going for you ? We need comments or this post will get lost in the abysses of the forum before getting an interresting amount of votes .
I’m fine with farming up materials but waiting 4 hours for 8 silver ingots to process is just a waste of my time. In a game with this much RNG the amount of end game ore we will need to smelt isn’t insignificant. I’d appreciate a system to be added for speeding up the smelting times. Let us burn additional materials, farm up extra flame crystals or something to power up the forges temporarily.
Grinding tough, endgame bosses for materials to craft gear? has weight, feels good. Grinding easily beaten, endgame bosses ad nauseum just to leave my ore sitting for 30+ hours per item to fully upgrade? That’s too much. We are going to amass ore faster than we can smelt it once we aren’t trapped in act 1 unless they add a way to process faster.
Can’t really upgrade these tier 2 gloves since they need 8 silver.
Also upgrading Mirabelle and Meriweather to tier 3 feels pointless since they just sell 1 more set of armor and a blueprint. And cloth materials are super rare.
Maybe add a station where we can dismantle armor for upgrade materials.
it’s not ‘too much time’, it’s literally NOT POSSIBLE now to upgrade your stuff, 10 silver ingot? Good luck in finding those in your next 20 crucible runs.
It is possible, but the available sources are not enough anyways. There are 2-3 (supposedly respawning, can’t verify that) silver nodes, a vendor selling 1-2 ore&|ingot a day (if lucky) and the occasional lucky find in chests/dig sites/crucible. For someone playing 1-2h a day give or take, this will take too long to get the necessary amount within a reasonable time frame.
“Destroying” an item doesn’t recover a fraction of the invested materials either, so that’s a 100% waste as well.
I get they have to scale silver rarity to the whole map instead of just the first two zones if T4 is in fact the max we can get. But that limitation would be more appropriate once we have access to the rest of the zones.
Thank you all to add your vote, i’m sure it’ll be useful to the team!
after about 40’ish general votes, we can start to see something emerging. So it seems that majority feel that collecting raw materials and upgrading gear takes too long (63% so far).
I let you look for the details on the first post where you can see what some of us feel about the time needed to collect raw materials, and time for refine those materials.
In this thread and some others, it appears pretty clear that crafting gear and enchanting it make the whole thing even worse, as enchants give very low amount of good results, so a lot of people ask for more control to customize the enchants part or our gear, especially for those crafting it from scratch.
I find this idea excellent! I hope we will be given this feature in later versions! It’s true that accelerating refineries for extra ressources sounds lika a good trade, though i don’t know if it would feel natural on anything else than the forge.
I think we should have more Tier 3 raw material drops in chest or vendors, not the refined materials though, just the raw ones.
I also completely agree! If a gear don’t turn up to become what we wished for (after an enchant for example, or a gem that don’t make the change we hoped for), we should be able to recycle it and recover at least part of what composed the gear, in a raw form.
I hope we’ll get more vote but it’s already heading somewhere, thanks you all again!
