My Xbox controller doesn’t have enough buttons to include the use of Utility Runes.
I like the idea, but I can’t actually trigger them.
Keys I can hold down: RT = attack, LT = weapon runes, RB = parry, LB = Block
… so nothing left for Utility.
Right stick click is lock enemy, left stick click is sneak.
X-direction is swapping weapons and eating food etc.
I literally have no controls left to hold so I can trigger the utility runes.
I moved controls around abit as well and put the utility rune on d-pad up, which is still awkward, but ok because i have extra buttons on my controller (similar to this) so i’m not really sitting ducks, when having to heal.
The gestures will only show when you hold R3, so it doesnt really interfere with with targeting. and parrying onL3 has not been an issue for me either so far, becasue you usually wait for an attack to happen and dont run around to much before that, but im not a big parry user
If they could change it so we can have button combinations, that would be cool so i could place it on LT+RT or sth.
also you cant remap the show bounties/challenges list when holding B, and when rolling in battle that screen pops up a lot.
Actually that’s a great idea! I might try doing it on d-pad down seeing as I rarely use potions unless it’s a boss fight, but I can do that through the menu system before the fight, freeing up the button for runes! Thanks GuessWho!
EDIT: I mapped this and I noticed if you DOUBLE-TAP down it uses the potion, but if you HOLD down it activates the runes!
I am on Steam Deck, and use Controller. Isn’t X the default key for attack? And RT was the key for the Emote Wheel, which is now the Utility arm? Maybe I changed it around idk; I know I flipped some things around so parry would be on L1 which I don’t use.
Anyways, I can’t be pulling that thing up in combat anyways… so I used Steam Input Configuration to map some actions to regular button combos. My Utility Arm (RT) is Heal = X, Blink = A, Channel = Y, Return = B.
So I setup:
- Double-Tap B = RT+A = (Blink)
- L3-HOLD or L1 Double-Tap = RT+X = (Heal)
- R3-HOLD = RT+Y = (Channel)
This way it’s easily accessible using buttons I am touching anyways, without having to go into that menu specifically. Because in the heat of battle no way I am going to remember to take my hands off R1 or L1, press R2 or whatever and then press X to get a heal.
Also have things like the Heavy Bash mapped to a single button too.
I really hope that they implement the idea of combining triggers for more functions, including a radial menu for item shortcuts so you can quickly select items and food in combat while being able to move and dodge.
Right now holding D-pad down is a terrible function because you cannot move while doing so as your left hand is holding D-pad down instead of the analog stick to move, it’s downright lethal to try to change items in combat.
