In my experience I just used two weapons during all the game (i change to another after few bosses and then i just used the 2nd one).
Once I put my statistics and i went for one kind of gameplay I didn’t had much need of changing weapon, just upgrade it.
Not the big deal.
It can be start a new run for example, but It felt like I would have prefer variety to have sense of progression. Just feedback, not complaining.
On 1.0 release it wont be like that thanks to class system. We will be more free to use/try other weapons/classes.
Apart from one-shot builds, you can literally play any weapon that suits you most. As for me, I played mostly Pig Sticker for fair amount of game (from the start to Marine Woods). After that, I switched for gauntlets
The class system is stated to include that you must “master” a weapon to be able to use it’s rune, so you’ll have plenty of reasons to use other things in the future, if you have to expand your rune attack options.
I do hope that means the rune is freely usable after being unlocked, rather than still being a finite material that is at risk of being destroyed, and has to be extracted over and over by farming dupes of the weapon in exchange.
I believe class and weapon runes will be completely different types of runes (as I understand from interviews etc). So prolly we still will able to mix/match weapon runes and also class runes.
