So this is something I discovered yesterday, and I’m not sure if it was addressed before or not, or if it’s a known issue, so please excuse me if it is, as I was also unable to find it in the known issues topic here.
Before reeding further, please note that this has been tested, and verified on the following System:
ROG Ally(2023) Z1E, with the default of 4GB for the iGPU running on the latest stable branch Bazzite OS(SteamOS like)
All this in mind, I’m unable to actually provide any of the log files, or use any of the tools provided to get the logs that are needed for such reports, however, as it is pretty easy to verify, and reproduce, I’m pretty sure that these are not needed anyways.
So here’s what happened:
I was playing the game, as usual, nothing too fancy, doing some bounties, dailies, challenges, whatever, basically just roaming around.
And I noticed that all of sudden, the performance started to degrade more and more over time, even if I was going through the same areas sometimes like 10 times(for example in Sacrament).
So I closed the game, and re-opened it, and then the performance became perfectly playable again.
So here’s what I did to verify my suspicion:
Launched the game, and wait for it to load completely, and I took measurements.
Based on the location where my character was sitting, the game was using the following resources:
3.8GB VRAM
9.5GB System RAM
I let the game, and my character to just sit there, without moving it, without doing anything else on the game, or the system itself.
One hour later, I took another measurements, and the results are:
4.2GB VRAM
10.1GB System RAM
As we can see, there is quite severe increase of the resource utilization for just 1h of doing nothing.
This is quite a big memory leak across all fronts for both VRAM, and system RAM.
As I said on the start, I have 0 clue if this is a known issue or not, but if it’s not, then this can explain the poor performance of the game for longer sessions, and this is the sort of things that needs to be prioritize, and addressed at the earliest convenience.
Offtopic:
I read somewhere on the internet that this might be an issue/bug with a specific version of the Unity engine, but I cannot neither confirm or deny if that is true for this specific build of the game.
