I had a suggestion for timers after playing Core Keeper that I think might help. In the past I know the developers compared timers to crops in games like Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley. These games don’t really tell you how long it will take, but they show progress. What if you were to remove the ability for players to see how long it would take, but if they walk by the area you show that the area is actively under construction. Maybe have like 3 levels of construction to show progress. I think this would change most people’s perception of timers. I honestly think including the ability to see the timer is the biggest part of peoples negative reaction that would eventually subside. I would bet if there was originally no timer (but you could see progress), there wouldn’t have been as much out cry about it.
