Steam Deck Experience Patch The Crucible

I rarely post in a forum, I decided to write out to express my frustation with the game’s condition, specifically with latest patch.

my Steam Deck model is LCD model,
4GB buffer, Cryoutilities
no undervolting
TDP 15 W
40 FPS 40 Hz

Settings in game:
Preset performance
FSR
Performance
all Blur setting off
Dynamic reso on to 40 FPS

I tried the new crucible. When reached the end boss, the FPS drops down to 3 FPS. It was horrible and all of sudden my char just died.

the FPS stability in various areas is also still bad.
in nameless pass sometimes drops to 25 FPS. I also still get 1 hour 20 min playtime from full charged

for me, the patch didn’t bring much improvement in performance area for deck. It is still a horrible experience. I can’t play it comfortably. I still constantly looking at the FPS meter at the corner whenever entering new areas.

this is also the reason the verification system of steam deck is still questionable. I think this game doesn’t deserve the verified status with current performance instability.

If you’re getting 3 FPS on the Boss or in general in Crucible, something is definitely wrong. I have the LCD Steam Deck from a couple of years ago, and I even play it docked to my 4k TV at 1080p (upscaled from the game’s 720p). Which generally performs less than native since I have to run the res-scaling slightmore more than when playing handheld due to the TV’s larger display.

Here is a crucible clip I recorded yesterday (720p game res, with res-scaling set to 90%).

I honestly recommend NOT using dynamic res scaling, and NOT using FSR (because they somehow implimented it badly idk). Because of the occasional dips, dynamic res scaling will make the res go really low when a stutter happens. Just use 75% resolution scaling, with a resolution of 800p, and sharpness of around 70-80%.

I also have my VRAM set to 4GB, using CryoUtils, and my Swap Size is 32GB to avoid any memory leak crashing in any game.

In areas like nameless pass I average 25-30 FPS, but the wise open areas like when you start going higher can have dips into the 15-20s; but it’s not too jarring when it occurs.

I recommend setting your FPS limit to 30 so the swings are less noticeable.

you can also try to set the quality presets to performance.

what helped me was turning down render scale a bit.
