Severe FPS drops in certain areas and during boss fights

Hello,

I’m experiencing very severe FPS drops in certain areas of the game. In some small locations, simply rotating my character in place causes my FPS to drop from around 55–60 FPS down to 28–29 FPS.

The situation is even worse during boss fights. Unfortunately, I forgot to record a video of those. The performance issues shown in the videos I’m attaching are significantly less severe than what happens during boss fights.

If the game logs this type of performance issue, it may already be recorded in the logs, as I played for about three and a half hours in a single session without closing the game.

I monitored my system using MSI Afterburner, and as far as I can tell, there doesn’t seem to be an obvious hardware bottleneck. Both my CPU and GPU usage stay around 50–60%, my 16 GB of RAM is using about 12.5–13 GB, and my GPU still has around 1 GB of VRAM available. These statistics are visible in the videos I recorded.

Interesting, I have almost the same specs as you but without these problems.

Do you use DLSS or another upscaling method?

Can you name a few of those locations? Lowland Meadows for example is notorious for putting a heavy strain on weaker systems like ours.

Those boss fights, any particular animations that they are playing or starting up? Any notable actions?

Thanks for the added files!

Silas

Yes, I’m using DLSS Performance with the AI Model CNN.

I’m not sure if the game logs include my graphics settings, but here are my current settings:

- Resolution: 1440p

- Graphics Preset: Best Quality

- V-Sync: Off

- Frame Limit: 60 FPS

I’ve tried everything I can think of to optimize my system for the game. This includes optimizing Windows settings, disabling unnecessary visual effects, updating my GPU driver, disabling all startup applications, and even ending some unnecessary Windows background services before launching the game.

In addition, I use Process Lasso Pro. ProBalance is enabled, and I have set the game’s CPU priority to High.

I have also overclocked my RTX 2060 by +110 MHz on the core and +1001 MHz on the memory. Finally, I set a 48 GB page file so I could rule out memory limitations as a possible cause of the issue.

Despite all of that, the performance issue is still present.

The areas where I consistently notice these FPS drops are:

- Marin Woods

- Sacrament

- Some parts of Nameless Pass

Whenever I play, I monitor my system with MSI Afterburner so I can understand what is causing any lag. However, in these cases, just as I mentioned before, neither the CPU nor the GPU appears to be fully utilized, there is still available VRAM, and there is still some RAM available. I can’t figure out what is causing the FPS drops.

I’m also considering updating the game’s DLSS DLL from 310.1 to 310.7, but I’m not sure whether that would improve the situation or make it worse.

i have the exact same problem. Did someone find a solution?

Some suggested solutiosn can be found here: [Combined] Game runs unplayable bad. (Performance issue)

But overall it’s an optimization issue that needs to be done from Moon’s side, though luckily we are heading towards 1.0 so a lot of that will be done for the official release!

Thanks @amirhossein, I have not much else to suggest right now but those details and stats will help the team for ironing such issues like you experienced out!

Thanks! I’m glad the information was helpful.

Hopefully, the optimization improvements planned for the 1.0 release will resolve these performance issues. I’m looking forward to it!:star_struck:
