Scribe Table Feedback

Scribe Table Feedback

Thomas shared about the new Scribe Table system during a Q&A session. Here is his quote about it:

The scribe table works in this way. You will find it right next to Thanos now. And it is basically just showing you it’s another crafting table. It’s just basically showing you every weapon that has already been explored on the realm at least once or found on the realm, right? So every weapon that already at some point existed on the server will be there. And we introduced research papers. Those are just random drops. And now you can use those research papers to actually research those items. So basically if you found some if you wanted to or want to know how to craft some furniture piece or some other item that was really difficult to find before with blueprints and so on, you can literally just force this stuff basically right now by finding research research papers. Then you just open up the scribe table. It is everything nicely categorized. So you guys basically see what I see in the editor and then you can just research everything right. That also obviously has been designed so that it works hand in hand with our class system because you might not want to wait for blueprints drop in RNG. If you’re really all you want to do next is hey, I’m playing the assassin class. I just want to research the next dagger. Right. So we made that quite straightforward. Once you research how an item can be crafted. Now you go to any crafting table where that item can be crafted and you can just craft it. So that makes it a lot easier and way nicer. See people are feeling about everything.

It’s not entirely clear how this will work. Initially, Thomas says that these tables will provide information about items found in the realm:

It’s just basically showing you every weapon that has already been explored on the realm at least once or found on the realm, right?

Everything is clear here. Find an item and get a Blueprint.

But then the question arises with new research papers:

And now you can use those research papers to actually research THOSE items.

So, thanks to these papers, we can get a Blueprint of an item we’ve already found? Why? How does this solve the randomness problem?

Thomas then says that we will see items as he sees them and that we can get rare items quickly with the help of new papers:

So basically if you found some if you wanted to or want to know how to craft some furniture piece or some other item that was really difficult to find before with blueprints and so on, you can literally just force this stuff basically right now by finding research research papers.

The first part says that we’ll receive information about what items have already been found in the world. And that we’ll be able to study these items thanks to new papers.

The second part says: you’ll see all the items in the editor, just like I do, and you’ll be able to study everything you want.

First part

Let’s consider both options. In the first case, the RNG problem isn’t solved, because we’re getting recipes for something we’ve already found. This will help you make a copy of the item and share it with players. But we still need to look for items in the game and hope for the right one
Bottom line: the problem of randomness is not solved.

Second part

By finding new papers, we gain the opportunity to examine ANY item in the game. From the very start, we see all the items in the game on the Scribbing Table. Pros: we are GUARANTEED to get the item we need. Cons: it takes away the joy of finding a new item, since we already know what awaits us.

I like the second option much better, as it allows you to get the items you need or those that are hard to obtain in the current system. It’s the perfect solution for those who like to collect all the gear in the game (like me). However, it somewhat takes away the surprise of finding new things.

I have a good solution that has already proven itself in the game V Rising. More on that in the next chapter

Solution

The blueprint system in V Rising works like this: You find a specific resource (paper, scrolls, etc.) in the world. In our case, it’s paper research. You go to the research table and can exchange this resource for a RANDOM blueprint (in older versions). In the modern version, they’ve improved this system and allowed you to obtain a random blueprint from a category of your choice. For example, armor, weapons, or furniture. In our case, it’s a weapon type, an armor type, etc.

How would the game work with this proposal in mind? We find research paper and head to the Scribe Table. It doesn’t show all the items at once; they’re covered with question marks. However, we know the items we’ve found in the world. We select the item category we’re interested in, and a random blueprint from that category is given to us.

This way, we get an item from the category we need, but there’s still the surprise of finding new items in the world.

Conclusion

So, we have three options for how the new tables work. First, we can learn recipes for items already found in the world. Second, we can learn any item. Third, we can learn a random item from the desired category.

I like the second option, but its downside is that we’ll already know all the equipment in the game, which somewhat reduces the surprise of finding new items. If this option is implemented, I’ll thank the developers very much and look forward to Co-op even more.

If the first option is implemented, it doesn’t solve the RNG problems and is a bad solution. It solves completely different problems.

The third option isn’t an ideal solution; it also has its downsides. But it’s just an idea for the developers to consider.

What do you think about this? Which option do you prefer?

We have items locked behind level - separating them in Tiers from 1 to 6 (only 3 currently in the game). I would like a solution when you can use research papers to unlock random blueprint from given unlocked tier, maybe even category if we want to be more specific. And then we can also use research papers but a lot less and do it a lot faster to unlock blueprint for item we have already found on our realm.

Edit: Ok, we got clarification from Thomas that we will be able to research random items from category without having to find them, that’s nice.

Thomas has already answered. The question is closed. But thanks for the answer
