Scaling and elemental damage (infusion)

Okay. I’ve seen this discussed more in depth on other threads, but I can’t seem to understand how it works exactly. Say I have a blood-rust sword (which I do) in a Strength build.

My understanding right now is that, if I infuse the sword with an elemental gem (say fire), I’m loosing my strength scaling on said weapon? I mean, I can see I do some damage, but it doesn’t seem near enough of what I do with my “raw” sword. Is my observation correct here?

If you infuse a weapon, all of it’s physical damage will be converted to elemental damage. Enemies have elemental resistances, that unfortunately can’t be seen anywhere, so if you’re doing less damage, that may be the reason for it.

Thank you, sir. Yes. This seems to be the case. Elemental damage seems more “erratic” than pure physical damage. Not sure if others can relate to that.

Elemental damage is generally stronger, also because there are more effects that enhance it.

In the case of fire, if you hit enemies who are in water they don’t burn and therefore take much less damage, but in general if you manage to make an enemy burn strongly (filling the bar to the maximum) the DPS of fire is very high.
