As a bow player I am always looking for every bit of update regarding this complex weapon.
Today we get a massive update on the bow gameplay. It was needed and so far I really like it. I’m really happy to see that some of the new mechanics look like some of the requests coming from the community, here on this feedback forum !
Only played a bit with the short bow and I don’t really have an opinion on the Quivers yet but here are a few comments.
Animation : Is it a bug or unfinished work ? It’ s frustrating to watch at the moment. Please have a look at my amazing paint work below of what I was hoping for.
Quivers: I was hoping to see them in game to add some cool stuff on my character ! (see picture N°4). But at the moment they are invisible.
I love new bow, while not yet try every bow. The only downside is quiver effect, it’s like throwing a mini bomb with bow rather than arrow, well some post about quiver change suggestion already nail it.
Other things is, about how enemy respond. Yes despite long range weapon, bow still get some challenge like stamina management (in early level) and enemy can throw bomb or leap attack. But the enemy lack basic defense, currently enemy only can block (shield only) or dodge (Nith or wolves), how about we add deflect mechanic (like block but without shield) to enemy. Which at default have low chance to deflect the arrow (have cooldown) and get higher with low health. Maybe some elite or bosses have higher chance, or maybe put this ability in path of unspoken, would give some challenge and variety of play with avid bow player.
We can take things further to let Cerim have the ability to deflect projectile too (like parry) immersing as a swordmaster xD
Which relate to class and fit to trait’s concept in future classes update
Really enjoyed the quivers, personally. I also liked that the short bow could fire without charging and still do mostly useful amounts of damage.
Also just generally enjoying that bows are a 2h weapon, now. I think that was a good change. Definitely going to be helpful to have viable ranged builds when trying to have 4 people hit a single enemy at the same time. And it feels better to be able to just hit the attack button to fire.
So far, I feel like the quivers are arrows that you can spam but they look like a spell that should have a cooldown. No class should have the ability to spam a spell like that (Ice, Fire, Elec, …) Something feels wrong at the moment. They need to find a way to balance the quivers effect with a spell / cooldown system.
