Marin Woods, why isn't there a plague outbreak?

Once you’ve beaten the Brood Duo at the Gate the plague outbreaks begin. To this day I have never seen Marin woods get a plague outbreak. Marin woods is the best designed level in the game! But I don’t feel any need to return there because I can’t farm any of the torn resources. Is this a bug?

Not sure if it’s a bug..

When I want to clear the outbreaks, I go to each zone and if there isn’t an outbreak, I make one (burning 3x embers + effigy).

Granted, I’m end game with hundreds of each resource.. so for areas like the Nameless Pass, Woods and Meadow, I always use the effigy so I’m not spending a bunch of time running around when all I really want is the boss loot.

If you’d like to learn more about the outbreaks and how their scaling difficulty does not affect non-boss drops:

So on that subject, are you saying that Marin woods can be activated manually? That doesn’t solve the issue of whether is should be activated automatically like the other areas.

I’ve got over 300 hours plus in this game so It’s not experience I’m concerned about. I’m interested if this should be the case or not, and what you’re describing is a manual solution to what I think should be automatically based on what they are doing with the other areas.

Yes, you can go to any campfire in a zone and burn materials to activate an outbreak manually.

  • Most advanced players use 9-12x Torn Sinew.
    *Produces a T4 - C3 outbreak.

  • I typically burn 3x Embers + 1x Torn Effigy
    *Produces a T4 - C9 outbreak.

  • To get the “hardest” outbreak from scratch, you burn 4x Fallen Embers.
    *Produces a T4 - C10 outbreak.

As listed in the topic I posted:
T1 - T4 is the boss loot value,
C1 - C10 is the power of the penalties against you.

Seriously…you can burn embers? I had no idea.

Wait Im confused, if reward is the same, why difficulty differs?

Good question. Whats the point?

That’s what we were trying to figure out..

At first it seemed that C1-10 would increase non-boss drops based on the level of the challenge. However, after extended testing, that wasn’t the case.

I’m guessing it’s either a bug/oversight or the devs were testing player interest.

Right now tho, it’s just a “n00b trap”.
*Granted, I still clear them at C9-10 due to having over 400 Fallen Embers (now that I’m not testing out any new builds).

why the difficulty differs depends on the Boss and The penalties/enemy-buffs can differ if you burn different foods, gear, potions and any type of upgrade/crafting materials and that gives you the hardest of all outbreaks as you can keep adding stuff to burn if you havent reached C10 Penalties as you can reach T4 Rewards quickly.
so why would i keep adding more penalties when i have already reached max rewards? so we arent Testing our limits? is getting the reward more fun than the experience and gameplay? is Fame more important than Knowledge?

for very easy difficulty burn torn effigy
for easy difficulty burn Torn sinew
for Normal difficulty burn Fallen embers
for Hard - Very hard difficulty burn a mix and match of everything
it matters what order you put everything in so you might wanna put in the Fallen ember, Torn sinew, Torn effigy later as a quick fill..
the penalty given can differ, if you put 1 mushroom + 1 roughcut meat you will get 1 type of penalty if you put it in opposite order so start with 1 roughcut meat + 1 mushroom you will get a different penalty and that is the same for if you put in 2 identical it will give a whole different penalty..
You Decide wether you want an easy time or a hard time ^^

Yes i have had one who was simply impossible to kill because of its attack patterns in a small area and fast health regen and immune to Freeze and i didnt even see a Stagger bar fill up i tried with every weapon type.. even if i gave up in the end i still had really Fun! xD from that i learned that Mixing different things to burn makes it alot Harder to kill.
