[Linked] My (autistic) Brother's First Experience with NTFTW

As you may have already read in the title, My brother is autistic. All autistic people are different In his case, his IQ is below average, but his real difficulties lie in communication.

But my brother has a lot of experience with difficult video games, he managed to finish Sifu, Sekiro, Elder Ring SOTE, Nine Sols, etc.

So, it might seem like everything is fine, but in reality, this game relies on written explanations to explain its systems, and he often had to ask for my help for this.

Every time a confirmation pop-up appears like the one for breaking or moving runes or gems, he is afraid of causing irreparable damage and so he asks me what is happening.

My brother doesn’t speak English, the first section of the Topic will be a translation of what he tells me, so all the meanings come from him but because of the translation, his way of speaking won’t be the same.

I watched part of his gameplay, at the end of the topic there will also be a “clarification” from me, I helped him a little during the adventure, but don’t worry I didn’t spoil anything for him, I just calmly explained to him the game systems that he didn’t understand by reading the tutorials.

Jacopo’s Feedback

I like the gameplay and animations of the game.

Some weapons are too slow like The

“Fused Coronert” wand is too slow, If the attacks are slower at least they should do more damage.

When choosing Crucible modifiers you can click “A” (confirm) or “X” (reroll), but the animation is the same so if you make a mistake and click “X” instead of “A” you won’t notice.

In my opinion, the plague zones should sometimes already be at a higher level, it’s true that you can upgrade them but sometimes they should already be at a high level.

The shops are not useful, they need to be upgraded more even beyond lv 3, and there is no shop for gems.

Weapons require stat levels are too high since the maximum level is 30 they should be lower especially those that require mixed stats, the maximum level in my opinion should be 100.

Questions to Jacopo

What do you think of the Story?

The plague that makes people become monsters and lose their minds is cool.

What do you think of the Bosses?

On normal difficulty the bosses are too easy.

The twins are strange and spam the pestilent pools too much and cover the whole arena.

When you’re a wizard Darek is too simple, It should have more ranged attacks in phase 1, and may have an attack to drain your focus (but the focus-draining move must not deal damage).

The caretaker & lost huntress are Cool.

Echo Knight, TP + AOE attack is too Strong.

What do you think about the Enemies?

Shielded enemies don’t attack enough, but you can’t attack them because they damage your Posture too much.

The crucible knights’ “plague ray” does too much damage to Posture.

Since you played as a fire mage, what do you think of the mages in NRFTW?

It’s very nice, but the burn damage is too little and the enemies burn for too little time.

I like the mages’ runes, but some runes need to be nerfed a bit.

What do you think about the difficulty?

On normal difficulty (and as a wizard) the game is too easy.

What do you think about Runes?

The healing rune is too strong.

What do you think about the map?

Cool.

What do you think about Food?

It works.

What do you think about Consumable items?

I never used them, I just used them to sell them or sacrifice them.

What do you think about Gathering Resources?

To collect wood and metals it would be better to put them directly into the inventory instead of picking them up from the ground.

What do you think about Inventory and Home?

It’s cool to use ichor to upgrade your inventory.

What do you think about the Enchantment system?

Too random, in my opinion if you go to Eleonor you should be able to set the enchantments to your liking, to make builds. Curses are too strong.

What do you think about Gems?

They are useful but they are too weak.

What do you think of Rings?

Some rings are useless. The others are ok. (I didn’t find them all)

What do you think about daily missions?

Cool.

Important detail

There are three reasons why he found the game easy, The first is that he has a lot of experience with Souls and also with isometric games.

The second is that he is already good at kiting and therefore by using the fire ball which costs stamina he was able to manage even the enemies he did not understand by staying at a distance.

And the third reason is ridiculous, he found this:

as his First ring! AS A MAGE!

When it happened I immediately told him to put the game on hard mode but he said no because he wanted to try the basic experience first, and then play on hard mode with me.

The only bosses he’s had a normal experience with are Warrick and the Echo Knight, all the others have been trivialized, The Caretaker in particular got obliterated.

The only reason he remembers what they do is because he faced them again with the plague.

In my opinion the rings are too important to be positioned randomly by the system.

I don’t nessecary agree with all your takes but it warms my heart to read this Lombix, thank you so much for sharing :hugs:

Silas

My brother would have written it if he knew English xD.

It’s ok, and it’s normal not to agree on everything but I would like to know why O_o, your opinion interests me even if we don’t agree.

Also Jacopo wants to know people’s opinions on this topic.
Every hour or so he asks me if anyone has responded and if they agree or not xD.

““The healing rune is too strong.””

That is an overstatement… there is no “healing” runes in the game that are effectively efficents to be called as such.. and for healing i mean that you can heal also others not only yourself… and the only one ingame, at best, it bandaid you locking in place… healing 2hp/s.. it is a complete joke.

The “personal” healing rune, uses way more focus than the AoE healing rune, but it is still equally bad to use.

They should add some REAL runes to allow players to heal people more efficently inside the weapon, so you can play as a sort of healer.. maybe adding a cleance too for the debuffs..

Please Bryan, I understand you got hooked by Lombix statement of the healing rune but let this topic not devolve into another discussion on runes.

Right now this topic’s main subject is accessibility and how Jacopo experienced the game while being autistic.

Silas

Jacopo* statement.

My brother played the current build before the self/fast healing rune nerf, he doesn’t know about the Beta nerf (and obviously he only played as a wizard in normal mode so his experience is limited).

Like you, I think the healing runes in beta are too weak, and the AOE animation is too slow.

What do you think of the other things he said?

Jacopo would like to know the opinions of others.

“”“To collect wood and metals it would be better to put them directly into the inventory instead of picking them up from the ground.”“”
-Agree.

“”“Some rings are useless. The others are ok. (I didn’t find them all)”“”
-Agree this too… some i don’t understand at all how they could be useful.

“”" Consumable items? I never used them, I just used them to sell them or sacrifice them.“”"
Agree.. partially.. we used some of them.. others never used, they are too slow to use in combat and last really nothing.. they should stay way more up as buffs and should NOT be removed on death.

“”“On normal difficulty (and as a wizard) the game is too easy.”“”
The game on SOLO is easy, generally speaking… you should play in coop, or if possible in FULL COOP.. because the game dynamically adjust the difficulty and the ammount of enemies based on how many players are present. We did played greatly during the beta time.. and it was AWESOME. We hope to see AT LEAST a 5th slot to being added or even 6 for the world player size..

Lombix_4: Say hi to your brother from YavindPew! Good opinions!

There is an enchantment called “increased healing%” it should do what it says.
