Lighting Suggestions

The level design is outstanding but the interactivity is lacking. All we can do after activating all the shortcuts is fight and gather. One small addition to player agency could be allowing us to alter the lighting wherever we go. There is already ambient lighting emanating from weapon/rune glow and there are torches and wall sconces EVERYWHERE. let us light the unlit torches or even extinguish them. This could lead to some really cool gameplay interactions. I’ve already posted under the gathering topic about a Lantern as a potential tool we could carry for our own personal, hip-mounted lighting but we already have an actual torch as an off-hand. We could have different oils that we use on the torch (or lantern) that have different effects. Imagine certain environmental puzzles that will only reveal themselves if you light nearby torches with a specific bioluminescent oil that reveals glowing patterns on the walls/floors. Maybe having certain lantern oil on your tool and/or lighting the wall torches with a certain oil effects the enemies/allies within range.

The impending class system leaves even more room for classes that play within the shadows so allowing us to put out the wall torches and move more stealthily (but hopefully somehow increasing our own personal visibility so we’re not fumbling around in the darkness and falling off ledges or into traps, etc).

I’ve seen sentiment in a few other posts about fighting bosses in near pitch black places like underneath Saltborn Tower. The illuminate rune spell is awesome but we need some options for allowing us to make the darkness more bearable in situations like this:

  • Let us turn on our own personal lantern
  • Let us mine/craft glowing stones that we can drop that illuminate an area for a few minutes
  • Let us light the unlit torches that already exist on the walls.
  • The visual effects from a thrown bomb could linger on the ground for a little longer. They don’t have to continue to damage (unless they are a super high lvl bomb?) but the spot a plague bomb exploded could continue to faintly glow purple for 20-30 seconds.

I agree on this or just give us more Dig spots at such places where you dont see anything.

I’ve always used the Dig spots in Dark Area’s as a Light Source its a great way to illuminate the surrounding Area.

(just think a little extra before you Loot it)
