I used a essence ember on an old enchantment (Bomb not consumed with X% chance) slotted on to a pair of old plagued mesh pants, and the charged essence ember is not compatible with any armor piece, old or new, regardless of enchantment or armor type.
Nor does the charged essence ember display the enchantment it holds or what it’s compatible items are, which makes it hard to know what enchantment is actually being slotted.
