Kb/m Vs Controller, for those who tried both (help/advice?)

Hello everyone, I made a post on the steam discussion, but I’ve chosen to post here as well, I Just made a forum account. I Don’t really do forums much.

I Will copy/paste my post here, basically just looking for other peoples thoughts / opinions / advice / and kind of, probly confirmation of what I’m guessing is true about controller use with NRFTW.

enjoy your time.

here’s my post:

Anyone played on Kb/m, and Controller? Thoughts?? (help)

I Played some on Kb/m, I’ve seen some videos of people playing with controller and saying how controller is way better in NRFTW.

IF you’ve tried both, and settled on one or the other, what are your thoughts..?

In my experience, in my setup / settings, and how I was playing it does feel off a bit with kb/m. Let me preface saying, I did use shift to sprint, to mouse, and a key to walk to mouse. Occasionally / also, WASD keys at times.. I pretty sure I’ve had it set to combined movement style/setting.

anyways,

I Have a feeling playing with controller might be better- even for me.

when I play with kb/m, it feels like my focus is on multiple directions of the fight at the same moments. I’m focusing on the enemy, + their attacks/movement + timing, My character my movement, and where my curser is to move in a direction.

I Think it’s like an odd thing where I’ve had to attune myself to my character moving, and where my curser is leading them to(Like playing 2 characters at the same time linked together if that makes sense, almost like a delay…(And it’s more difficult in fights where your focus is divided I Noticed), … where as with the controller you are your character, and movements and probly more fluid and quick. Actions seamless and make sense, ..

.. am I Theorizing this correctly? - I Don’t own a controller.

I know controller is recommended by the game itself. I Wasn’t going use controller, but I am tempted, I Even looked up some great options where I Can set a button to use for custom key, for example to use discord or whatever with my friend.

I Guess I Just need some opinions, and confirmation before I Decide fully.
one option I looked up is the …

GameSir G7 Pro Tri-Mode Xbox Wired, PC.

I’ve heard of controllers having many issues over time, and then people having to re-purchase them. This one likely has none of those issues. it’s about 80 dollars/price.

I like NRFTW.

let me know your thoughts about all this,
Thanks in advance.

EDIT / UPDATE:
So people are actually seeing my (Steam Discussion) post and responding now recently, I want to link the post here so both are together. Thank you:

With controller the movements are NOT more fluid, they just seems more accurate due to just habit.

I do play with MK and i have no issues with it. In fact it is even faster and more precise, due to the fact that MK doesn’t have a “zero” zone, like the controller.

If you have issues with the movements, worry not, you can make it way better.

What do i use? Well mainly i have 90% of the stuff binded on my mouse (i do have a Roccat Tyon) and i barely use few things, beside movement on the keyboard.

To move, i do use a combo of buttons. SHIFT for running, ALT for walking. With that i can even make a full 180 way faster than a controller and i am pretty skiled with platforming.

What you need is just a bit of training. In a couple of hours you’ll be way better.

Just be sure to take habit to not use WASD as those buttons override the movement over the mouse pointer by using SHIFT or ALT.

Thank you for your reply & input/feedback.

yeah, I was thinking at some point playing maybe the WASD is messing me up at times, seeing I was using 2 ways in one while playing.

Bryan, there’s 3 styles for the settings (for kb/m) which one do you use?
I Only tried one really. Thanks. @BryanFury

I am using the default one, the first. WASD is still an important keybind to use on some part of the game, but when you need more precise control, leaving WASD alone and using SHIFT or ALT takes precedence, especially with platforming.

The only missing “control” that there is is about the BLOCK function… sadly it doesn’t follow the mouse cursor when you hold up a shield.. thus we have to wait for them to be added ingame soon or later..

ALSO, if you are using a bow, and you are trying to make use of it like an artillery, the use of ALT for MICRO movements is really usefull, as you’ll be shooting without the target softlock and thus you need to adjust where the arrows fly.

Precision you can’t achieve with a controller.

Dead zones (Those you can configure)

What kind of controller/gamepad did you use, wired or wireless?

If you ever get a Controller/Gamepad make sure its a Wired one.

I added an update/edit to show the link to the steam discussion page (For the same topic) which has new responses.

You call it dead zone but it is a ZERO zone (zero input) because an analog stick goes from giving input to no input (zero signal or zero zone) as inputs are based on the ON/OFF signal (or 1 and 0) and then goes on the other way giving again an input.

The whole pass as 1>0>1 is literally Input-ZeroInput-Input.
