First of all i would like to tell that i like the game, it seems really cool and promising and definitely has the potential, and yeah know it’s EA but i want to talk about the course of the game like what it is about right now and what are the best potential changes for future patches.
So what do we have? It’s an ARPG but also with some soulslike balance like stamina and enemies that might kill you just in few hits. Let’s talk about RPG elements. There are stats, loot and different enchantments that players can experiment with trying to build their own playstyle. And i can’t say anything particular about stats, every weapon requires it so it’s just about right numbers and better balance, but loot and enchantments…it’s where things are getting interesting to discuss.
I have an opinion that random is not good for any RPG and i’ll explain. Wouldn’t it be right to say that the ROLE that we’re playing in any RPG is mostly our idea like what gear, weapons, spells etc. we see as the best choice for this idea aka build. And what is really interesting is not to picking some random loot or rolling different enchantments and praying so we finally got what we need, but testing our build in action. We need to know how does it work and how good it is! Like what to improve and what is unnecessary. That’s what i would like to spend my time on when playing video games not farming, but testing my ideas in action.
So with that in mind i don’t actually understand why do we have full random enchantments system for our gear and weapon? Why can’t we just get the enchantments that we want? I don’t mind if we would have random % of the effect but the effect itself should be guaranteed we need at least a way to do that. And i’m ok with resources for that, but have to say some of them are ridiculously hard to get which again force me to spend my time on farming instead of testing my idea. It’s just like players shouldn’t play some farm simulator most of time, they’re should getting better in game mechanics, in things like combat system, pressing buttons, stamina control even game knowledge etc.
We also have crucible, so hopefully devs will nerf all the broken stuff and it will be pretty challenging if we’re talking about combat system, but we also have platforming element in the game which i would like too see as a part of crucible so we’ll be able to see a mix of tough enemies with difficult platforming (i mean way harder than now). And after that just make some good challenges for it (beat crucible without using focus or only using particular weapon for example), and reward people with something actually valuable like i don’t know a token that allows you to enchant your gear with a particular effect. it’ll make people to actually play and all other things that i mentioned earlier.
Next stop is runes. Most of them are way too powerful and by that i mean with balance like this people don’t actually have to know even half of enemy’s moveset just use your runic attack and you’ll be ok not all of them but most of. I personally don’t think we need health and focus regeneration on damage dealt because again it allows people to be lazy and still beat enemies without any efforts. But this part is questionable so i’m not sure, maybe there is a way to balance it somehow.
My biggest point here is we don’t actually need a game about grinding because we have it all the time, instead what we really need is a game about good combat system with wide flexibility, challenging enough to push people to their limits as a player if they want it
