Using great shield with damage on block, if it kills these monster that explode and spawn snakes if I hold the block it will keep emitting some explosion and there will be more snakes. I can just hold the block and I keep taking damage and there’s some invisible explosion. Moreover, I have to lower the shield for this to stop and then I take damage again.
I do have the Thistle Ring equipped. Doesn’t seem to matter if I kill him with shield damage, but absorbing the blast does. I’ve reproduced this twice today already.
Sorry to post here, but I could not get the bug forum guidelines to recognize the log files uploaded to google drive. I don’t do much forum posting so this is likely just a skill issue.
Anyway,
I believe I have found a bug involving the grub host enemies death explosion interacting with thorns damage enchantments from armor. If you are wearing armor with thorns enchantments when taking damage from the death explosion which spawns the 4 grubs, the explosion animation will play again and spawn 4 more grubs. This seems to continue until you do not take damage from an explosion.
I have 3 videos in the google drive folder below to provide some context.
One video has only damage on block enchantment on the shield, and does not cause extra explosions.
Another has only thorns enchantments and does cause extra explosions until I leave the damage radius.
The third video is also thorns enchantments only, but since the thorns-only clip was in crucible I wanted to recreate the scenario outside crucible. This video also has thorns from only one source to make sure this wasn’t some issue with stacking.
Since the last update I noticed that the tentacle ridden enemy explodes multiple times. I’m playing a build with thorns, thistle ring and in the crucible i got a damage trigger on damage taken. I suspect all these different sources of damage trigger multiple explosions.
The multiple explosions happen in sequence one after the other, I ended up with 3 consecutive explosions at some point.
Related, when the explosion occurred on the nameless pass bridge just outside the city, it removed permanently the texture of the road leaving a rectangular hole where the texture of the “stain“ would have been. The geometry was still walkable it just became transparent.
When blocking with a great shield. If you kill the fatties from thorns or damage on block, the ones which explode when killed and leave behind worms that attack, the explosion will occur until the player gets hit without blocking or evades the area. If you hold the block, the explosion will keep occurring.
I was able to reproduce the bug. It is exclusive to great shields, other shields do not create the same results. There must also be both Thorns and damage on block. It does not happen with only damage on block.
As you can see, the explosion ticks repeatedly and spawns worms with every 3 ticks. I was not able to find another exploder in this crucible run, so I couldn’t test it without the projectile aoe stacked on me. I also did not test if the bug triggers on Thorns without damage on block. I will return with more info after further testing.
I have now confirmed that it happens with Thorns, even if no damage on blocking is present. The explosion ticks slower under these circumstances, but continues spawning worms every time. It also continues exploding even if you stop blocking, as long as the explosion still hits you (triggering the Thorns on the now dead exploder).
First, showing the bug while blocking with only Thorns;
Now, the same room with the same gear, but I kill the enemy normally and block the explosion.
As you may notice, I stopped blocking and let the explosion hit me, which still caused a duplicate explosion afterwards. I believe this is because the enemy that was destroyed is still ‘taking’ thorns damage, and therefore it’s ‘dying’ again.
EDIT Fixed the links to show the right videos.
Final update! It’s got nothing to do with the shield. It’s completely just Thorns. The great shield only makes the problem more noticeable. Here is a video of me getting the explosion twice by only letting my Thorns proc on the first explosion, without blocking anything.
I’ve actually noticed this bug in my casual gameplay, but I just assumed the exploder was always supposed to spawn 8 worms instead of 4. Now that I have seen it, I cannot unsee it.
Final edit; I was able to get the explosion to proc multiple extra times (while not recording) by just getting up inside the explosion again. I didn’t even have a shield equipped at the time. Under the right circumstances it might be possible to get stuck in a loop of explosions right as you get up if you are, say, pinned against a wall with thorns and a medium equip load.
