I think it’s always a “soft” class system like the souls-like, This is a list that shows the combinations to make a particular achetype. To show how many different types of builds you can make (I think).

If you familiar with New World (the mmo) this system reminded me attribute/class system in there so it actually opposite than restricting.

I think this would be a great change to the current system, I see countless players on reddit fumbling their attributes and getting stuck in the game. But my understanding is that they’re getting rid of the system altogether.
